Mick sorry hafey does a great job every year handing the medals to Nobby
It takes a lot of know how to handle that job
Just think after you have had a gut full of food and 22 beers ( all free ) could you do it ????
Yes he only played a handfull of District games at Port and West Torrens before being sacked ( given the flick ) from both clubs but it must have been hard living in his brothers shadow, and even today his brother is a smart businessman and poor Mick has to also live with that.
I feel sorry for Hafey

151 , Mick was never givem the 'flick' it was off his own back.

Injuries played a BIG part, and as a wicket keeper / Batsman you need to be 100% right at A1 district level.

Making 56 with the bat, taking 4 catches and 1 stumping against Prospect in his last game with West Torrens isnt anything to scoff at.
Mick went in as night watchman against Prospects finest eg Rodney Hogg, facing a brand new cherry, off the long run and was able to graft out 56 , no mean feat.
What i dont know about football isnt worth knowing .

Peter Wenham, Wacka Dawe, Carey Payne are the three I have heard. Wouldn't have thought Salisbury Norths B grade coach would get the gig, not sure who Peter Wenham is. Payne has done great things at Eastern Park but is unknown in the barossa. great speaker, great with the kids, players will follow him i'd say.

Carey's progressed a long way from when I used to see him as a cheeky little rover. Always mouthing off, while running away from you ball in hand.
I remember playing in a SAFA rep game with him when I was 17 and he was just dynamite that day.
If he can talk now like he did back then, he'll have his team in raptures.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

Maybe 151 was right!............ like Willaston in 2004.

Dawe to be offered the job, Brandt to threaten legal action & the tigers to have 2 coaches in 2009.

Skip - I think that Plonk may be eluding to the fact that you may be closer to the inner sanctum of Tanunda than him. As for the question, he played a bit with West Adelaide reserves before heading back to Robertstown and Mt Compass. He's a cousin of the Schmidts at the Swans and Lions. Although he may be a better tennis player than footballer.

Duke thanks for that, tounge in cheek crack back at him. Sounds as though he maybe another footy drifter out there hunting money. Duke I can assure you that I have nothing to do with that club, I do have some very good contacts and close friends there just like I have some close friends at your club.

no truth in that hafey, the tigers wont make that mistake.

It did however happen out a willaston in 2004 when Occonor and Gibbons shared the honors of coaching a side from minor premiers to a rabble in one season. In doing so, they ensured that their names will be remembered as being part of the most unsuccessful decade in the clubs 100+ years of A Grade footy.

With that post stirlo it shows you are a D**k Head
You dont know the facts of what happened
It was actually Gibbons who took the Legal Action
That year will go down as the then President stuffed the club, and why it's still suffering
Decade by the way is 10 years, not 3 that Oconnor was there or 1 year that Gibbons coached, by the way they finished 4th that year, and ONCE AGAIN your side finished 3rd, by now you must be getting sick of all the 3rds,
Look in your own back yard, of under achievers
Songer with his supporting on a Saturday, made your second rate club go to third rate
Talk about things that are relevant NOW and not in the past, but please please get your facts right

Stirlo - I'm with the hound on this. Do you think you will appoint a new coach this Millennium? What is the hold up? and when do you anticipate that a decision will be reached? From an outsider it would appear that they may be going down struggle street. The club should be assertive in the direction and already be focussing on 09 rather than fumbling around looking for a coach. Surely it cant be that hard!

I am not a GC insider but i would suggest they would be looking for someone who can shake that monkey off there back and guide them past a prelim final.

David Harvey is latest name i have heard linked to the GC's coaching job.

Maybe the Gawler clubs should wind the clock back and lure former greats to coach eg Mullet Mcgrath at South , Wilbur Wilson at Central and Jamie Thomas at Willaston.... They were the days when the BL&G was a decent comp.
