It appears as thought SJ had no impact at GG, which is surprising as he has done so at many of the other clubs he has coached. People are generally a fan of SJ or opposed to him, with no in betweens. I did play under him in the Hills and did respond to his coaching ethos. I believe GG won the flag last year. Can any one provide me with some history of the club? listing where the club has finished and the div that GG played in prior to SJ's tenure up untill current.

Duke, I'd take a fair punt and say Term is probably more than a follower if you know what I mean !!
GGFC started in 1997 in Div 7 finishing runners up. Played in Div 6 until winning in 2003 playing in finals in most years. Played Div 5 until being relegated (under SJ) in 2006. Runner up in Div 6 in 2007 and won Div 5 in 2008. I would say at a guess we have only missed the finals 3 or 4 times in that time but 2006 was definitly a low.
You are dead right though, there is no middle ground in the scale of 0-100 when it comes to rating that guy... Unfortunately he was at the wrong end for our club. But like you, some people may respond to his style, each to their own. Enough said really.

Choccies - yeh can read between the lines, but would find it hard to believe, he wouldn't have got past the commodore 64. Did he not fit into the demographics of the club or did he want to much commitment for a Div 5 club? Since then he has moved onto a higher levels (that is no slur on Div 5 standard) but may show a desire in his coaching aspirations. Where is the Terminator today?

 The Vic 20 was tough to beat but if he graduated from that onto the Commy he was doing well !!
Commitment wasn't a problem. IMO, I just believe he didn't fit into the club and wanted everyone to be like him. I guess everyone has their reasons for not liking the guy or the way he tried to 'coach' and I wont go into them but sometimes you have to listen to others and accept that you can learn from them and not just be someone who knows it all...
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Well the talk is that the coach has nominated himself and numbers early appear strong but then again we had this same scenario last year so when it is officially announced I'll believe it. Then of course GTB, there is the issue of what Div the C's and D's will play ?? C4 and C5 or Div 7 and Div 7R.... does anyone have any thoughts on what would be a better path for a club to take from past experiences ??

Not sure on TJ yet actually. I plan to ask him though...
What are your movements for next year mate ?

I think that if we were able to do it div 7 and div 7r would be ideal, you could have both sides at one ground, trainers, boundary umpires etc etc. The biggest issue would be we aould be playiong against other sides c grade and d grades. However if you look at it there is already some clubs in that grade this year that had this happen ie Henly and they played off in a GF so its not a major issue IMO.

Injury Sminjury... Dont make hasty decisions at this time of year GTB. Wait till after christmas when you have eaten a little too much pudding, drunk too much beer and stacked on another 5 or 10 kilos before making the call on your playing future !!

Don't know if the SAAFL would let you do that. I thought there was a rule that a club's C grade had to be a certain number of divisions below their As. Uni used to have their As in A1 bs in A3 then Cs in A1R before this rule for example. I could be talking out my arse though.

I'd probably start in C4 and C5 guys, the teams you mentioned with Cs and Ds in Div 7 (Henley, Athelstone, Uni) are all Div 1 & 2 clubs with a hell of a lot of depth, your Cs and Ds may struggle against Cs and Ds of clubs in A1 or A2.

I'll go out on a limb Pag and say that may be the fear of the players... not such an issue from the committees point of view maybe... Teams like TTG and Modbury fielded very strong D grade teams in C5 this year and our C's probably wouldn't get close to their C's...

I would tend to agree Chocckies, the C grade comp would be where the c and d grade would be suited better, my point is that the only real benefit of d7 and d7r would be the support staff needed for teams can be doubled up ie trainers, boundary unps, waterboys etc. In a perfect wold this would work for us but do agree we would be better in the C grade comps.

You'd get that every second week with playing in C4/C5. The league would program your home games together when the As and Bs are away.
