HEH HEH! Nice one! Quichey!
Be good to catch ya at the Rhino Gig!

I think Dogwatcher might have nailed it there.
There have also been some awesome bands touring throughout this year too.

How about: Sonic Youth, Fugazi, Jesus Lizard, Pop Will Eat Itself, The Hard Ons, Celibate Rifles, DEVO.
The list goes on, at least something that is a bit scary or dangerous.

They won't do that as they don't want to upset Generation Y(bother). If they haven't heard it on Triple J they might get scared and cry all over their brand new Che Guevara T-Shirt.

EDIT: Apologies, but does that sound a tad bitter and grumpy.

The Triple J crowd is the audience the BDO is designed for. Afraid of listening to something new?

I've heard Triple J pafc1870 there is nothing "new" on there!

If theres nothing new on Triple J, theres nothing new anywhere.

^^^ True.

They consistently played stuff that hasn't been played on any other radio in the world, let alone in Australia. But I just listen 'cause I think Linda is hot.

I think Splendour's growth could be to the detriment of the summer festival.

Splendour definitely is raising the bar, but it's just about on it's own at that time of the year. During summer there are festivals every other weekend (too bad few make it to SA), all vying for exclusive headline acts. The talent making itself available to Australia then gets spread thinly.

What a crappy line up. Yeah there is some ok stuff but what happened to the killer line ups of yesteryear? The BDO gets worse and worse every year. If you want to see a decent line up you should check out soundwave

Tedbullpit you have no idea. Arctic Monkeys are one of the best bands going around. Birds of Tokyo are a great band, so are Cog. There are plenty of great bands in that list. Have you actually taken the time to listen to any of these bands?

You don't seem to have a lot of support there Michael. Most people on this forum seem to agree with me - The line up is crap! Yeah the Arctic Monkeys are a good band but they hardly what you would classify as a headline act and they are probably the best of the bunch. The BDO should have something for everyone and this lineup as yet does not.

On Channel V just then they said another 3 announcements for the BDO....

The Raconteurs DW? Not a bad band at all. Jack White is in it. I love the White Stripes.

From the first announcement the only people i can see that are missing out are the metal fans. I am guessing that with Soundwave only a few weeks after - Big Day out have decided to not put to much focus on this genre?

Who are the three, anyone of note?

Yet another crap BDO bill. The next two installments are the lesser lights. L&W have been pulling this sh!t for years now with crap line-ups, they know the thing is going to sell-out regardless of who's on the bill. To quote TISM "the BDO where everyone is an individual for a day".

I went in '02 to see Tomahawk and once their set finished walked straight out of the joint.

I'm not sure if that says more about you or the line-ups.
If you like music then an event like the BDO is going to have plenty that will surprise you.
While I don't like this year's line-up at this point, I wouldn't say there's nothing worth seeing.

Well being my opinion of course it says plenty about me, that is after all what we're doing here giving our opinions. I like music and not only does a BDO bill not have music that I'm interested in (for the most part) but certainly nothing that would surprise me unless by surprise you mean Neil Young being on a bill for teens and young adults who are more interested in getting wasted. Good luck to them it's their money but let us not pretend the BDO has some sort of credibility, that died when they decided to come back in '99 with a focus on more commercial oriented bands coupled with bands getting their 15 minutes before disappearing back into obscurity.
