Talk on any country footy league or club from the SA Country area

Postby Thunder Down Under » Fri Jun 30, 2006 1:48 pm

I agree with you Indian re the SA Country side issue, only chance some of these players will ever have to play for their state. Can't see too many upsets for tomorrow although it is likely to be the first real wet day of the season which can throw up a surprise. I'll stick my neck out and tip the Tigers to beat the fair weather Dogs.
Realise that Dawe stands out in a lesser competition but the mark of a quality country player is how he plays in association games and it seems he plays quite well in these games
I debate this point often, doubleblues i don't argue that Chad can handle representative football, but to me real quality players play well all the time. It is nice to have the players that can step up when it counts, but they often leave you wondering if they will continue to producein big games, if they are lazy during minor rounds.
I'm not sure of all the games..
Lofty to bounce back and flog Blackwood
Onkas in a tight one over Lobie
Mt Barker over Bridgey
hahndorf too good for ironbank...but not by much...

Hope I got those fixtures right.

I notice in the paper today that Sam Miles (Lofty) has got a promotion to Sturt's reserves tomorrow...a midget among giants! good on him

See what you are getting at Dr Football. I guess that is another point as to why he should be playing in a higher standard, he is probably getting bored in some games in Country Division as the challenge is not there, last Saturday's result against Callington being a case in point.

The Indian wrote:Double Blues, Your question about not sending a SA country side to the National Champs was raised on KG & Cornsey last night. They were asking the exact same question. Leigh Whickers response was that they were disappointed that our side had been put into the Div 2 side of the carnival, so they pulled the pin. What do they expect when they dont send a side in 2002 to perth for the Championships for financial reasons, just to waltz back into div1?? Not good enough if you ask me, kick in the guts to all those that put their hand up for representative footy.
SA will be the only state not going. Even the Kiwi's are sending their best side!!!!!!!

Cheers for that Indian. I did actually hear the interview and I thought how uncanny it was that it was mentioned only about half an hour after I made my original post about it!
Agree with what you said but it's pretty ordinary in my book that funding can't be found somewhere to send these blokes to these championships. Is probably the highest honour that some of these guys will ever get, is an extremely high standard of football and for them to have to pay their own way is pretty ordinary IMO - Very Bloody Ordinary!!!!

No real suprises in the results this weekend fellas, but Blackwood seemed to be on the recieving end of a angry Lofty side. Not even registering a goal. That may well be a first for the woodsmen. Chad Dawe kicks a bag again, might be a starter for the Southern districts side, Trezinski would be a certain starter in the form he's in, Mail medal form i reckon!

Magpies - it's NOT a surprise that Lofty beat Blackwood. That was expected. The fact that Blackwood couldn't score a goal however, was truly not expected (by me anyway). I don't know if that has ever happened for either side. What a dark day on Windy Hill, seeing as a win could've had them in fifth or thereabouts, but now that result would have to massively dent their confidence.
Their B grade losing easily in the Courier Cup makes it an avergae trip to Heathfield for them!

I ran into an old mate of mine yesterday who is involved up at maccelsfield and he said the a grade had 12-13 players out that would normally be first picked in the side. Looked to of been a very disappointing result for them but it makes it very hard when you have that many blokes out. Were you aware of that wishiwas? From reading other posts from you its clear you dont seem to like the club alot, but unless you know the real reasons why the club is struggling you should not post crap comments like that. It just doesnt help anyone.

Tiger,
i knew they had injuries. but that score line is incredible. but now here is the problem. over the years maccy have had a habit of dropping off around mid year, mainly because their start to the year has been below par, and so everything else drops away as well. and the first thing is training. can someone (odb maybe) tell us their training numbers at the moment.
i dont dislike the club. they are just frustrating, as over the past few years they have threatened at times, only to fall over again and again.
as for me posting crap comments, they were just bait, mate. and you, were they first to bite.

Injuries or not, that's a massive loss. But it seems meadows are on a warpath as well.

Barker look like they could be back on track with some noticable good players featuring in their best for the last few weeks, like nunan and murphy etc. Although Ironbank are very young.

I am sure lofty would not have kept a side goaless in years!!!! And I am sure blackwood have not copt a belting like that before in their time.
What was the difference between the sides. As Blackwood had won there last three and lofty lost last week??
How good is footy!

I didn't see the game, but Blackwood have a nice run home...Bridgey, Ironbank and I think Mt Barker were their 3 wins. Mt Barker are patchy. Not hard to beat ironbank by 12-odd goals. Blackwood has copped a few beltings, lofty went up there in game 2 and beat them by 15 goals, tables have turned.
Lofty lost to what is apparently an ever-improving Onkas, a side I think will get the closest come September, to Uris and Lofty.
was it p#ssing down all day with Onkas and Loby? That is a low scoreline, not the only one though. Hahndorf ONE goal. On their way down.

Indian, just been out on the reservation for a while! Gee wet weather certainly brings out the best. 4 games of Hills A-grade footy and just one side manages to kick a goal, and I believe Hahndorf were lucky a mis kick from Uraidla gave them that! Blackwood, a bit deplorable, mind you, they did keep Mt Lofty to 0-7 in a game in the 2nd last round at Heathfield in 2004 - back in the bad old days for the Devils. Maccy, well my spy told me Meadows were simply awesome, even with the Bloods very depleted. Wot excuse for Callington, not even posting a score over four quarters. Pretty hard when they field 15 players. Situation is woeful, gee they make Milang look like a well organised outfit. Pity the plight of some clubs ... the other week three sides in Southern were in same boat ... not scoring a goal. Does it empathasise the gap between those leading clubs and those that really should have a good look towards their future. The wheel does turn in the nature of Mt Lofty, Cove and even Meadows (only 4 wins in 2005), but some clubs are really struggling. What's the answer ... disband ... amalgamation? A few years ago, West End sponsored the battle of the two worst sides in country SA ... reckon it was Port Elliot and Morgan ... how about an updated version ... a few nominations .... Callington, Southern Hawks ... maybe we can resurrect MB Redlegs and Milang for just one more week. Unfortunately trend in HFL seems set to continue this week ... any takers on under 15 goals between Mt Lofty and Ironbank at the Thunder dome ... Kangarilla v Gumeracha ... the margin may be the same as the kilometres the Blues have to travel ... and write your own ticket for Callington v Birdwood. Bring on the finals, at least we may get some close contests!

Welcome Back Magnet
Who knows what could happen at the thunderdome if we get a nice day?? Fleet may well have this week off training to pack his picnic basket. I'm predicting a wet day though and the margin will be less than 6 goals. A few of the lofty boys will be easing through the game with their eyes set on next weeks country champs.
They reckon callingtons tactics were quite bizarre on the weekend?, thats not good for footy, but whatya do when you dont have the cattle, they dont really have any neighbours to merge with.
