DOMESTIC CRICKET PREVIEWS SHEILD + 0/D +20/20 + GOSSIP

Postby mal » Thu Sep 11, 2008 1:54 pm

Had a look at the programming this season
It appears that there wont be too many chances for the International players to play in the state comps.

INS AND OUTS 2008/2009 + COMMENTS[ I think most of these are right ???}

NSW

INS
NEVILL

OUTS
NICHOLSON retired
SIMMONS wa
OBRIEN sa
COOPER sa

With so many players in line for AU duties the NSW team may struggle
KATICH had a freak year and carried the batting if he is unavailable ....
HUGHES [1980tassie tip to play for OZ] KHAWAJA, HENRIQUES[reb proterge] will need to blossom
LAMBERT/MAIL have decided to stay in NSW and not play for SA
BOLLINGER needs another big year, CAMERON could be a very good player

SS will struggle
OD finish closer to last than first unless Hungry Jaques plays
20/20 no hope not enough sloggers unless Andrew Johns has improved

QLD

INS
R HARRIS

OUTS
MAHER
KASPER
PHILLIPSON ??? transfer list
BUCHANAN ??? transfer list

Only a shadow of the team they were earlier this ,millenuim
IF IF IF
IF HAYDEN/ROY/HOPES play a few games then will be competitive
JOHNSON is living in WA but commuting to QLD if required ?
Without thier International players will be in trouble

SS lack good fast bowlers and batting is very ordinary
OD very good team if spared a few from AU team
20/20 if ROY plays but with WATTO out will struggle

SA

INS
OBREIN
COOPER
WISE
YOUNIS
KLINGER

OUTS
R HARRIS
ADCOCK
ELLIOTT
DIZZY
DIETZ
BOOF

some big outs
another season of despair
COSSIE is fitter and will need a big year from him
Need TAIT fit and firing
YOUNIS only till xmas, might take him that long to adjust to AU tracks
WISE if fit a good recruit
KILINGER a good OD player when firing
Lost 2 many good players to be competitive

SS last
OD last
20/20 last

TAS

INS
DENTON ???

OUTS
WRIGHT vic for 12 month contract
DIVINUTO retired
GRIFFITHS ???

Going to keep thier side in tact most of the year and will be settled
HILFENHAUS/BAILEY may get call ups to play for AU but thats all
Good batting line up and will do well this season
Injury prone WRIGHT has gone to Vic but DENTON might take his spot

SS top chance to make the final
OD strong batting line up have a top chance
20/20 some good batting will give them a hope

VIC

INS
ROGERS
WRIGHT

OUTS
KLINGER sa
WISE sa
DENTON ta ?
NEVILL nsw?
LEWIS retired

Fringe AU players D HUSSEY/HODGE/WHITE are the key
They should play enough games to make VI a hard team to beat this season
VI bowling could be a prob as most of them are injury prone
HARWOOD/SIDDLE/NANNES/WRIGHT are formidable if fit most of the year

SS Top chance
OD
20/20

WA

INS
SIMMONS nsw

OUTS
ROGERS vi
LANGER ret
GILLY ret
INNESS
WATES
HOGG ?????????????????????????????? undecided
ERVINE
GILES
MCLAUGHLIN

Lots of outs
ROGERS/LANGER outs hurt the SS team
Kept thier bowlers at least
Still have good batters

SS midfield
OD top chance
20/20 top3 expected especially if Marsh can play a few games

WINNERS

SS ?
OD VI
20/20 VI

Not sure about the SS
Can anyone confirm if the International players are available ?

Georgie Hogg has retired and is combining the end of his commerce studies with either carving up or hacking up southern Perth golf courses.

Despite losing openers of the calibre of Rogers and Langer, we should still fare reasonably well at the top of the order.

Mitch Johnson is WA now, and not Qld.

Watto out - tripped over a moth, which broke his other toe and did his Watto-string again at the same time!

Think it should be made clear why he is moving to WA.

The Shield is ours and the rest who cares. Hughes, Henriques, Cowan and Bollinger to have absolute blinders. Hussey and White to get the call up, Tassie the only other real chance. Couldn't care less about the Franger and even less about the teeball.

It's obvious. Tait has to bowl teams out, while Cossie loses the pounds and finds the runs...err, the cricket variety. Younis Khan to make one good knock, and Manou to make a couple of hundreds will see the Redbacks finish 5th. ;)

(I had to make it sound a little positive, right?) :)

I'll accept the Redbacks finishing last (don't want it to happen, but i'm a realist) if theres solid improvement within the ranks, AND theres none of those ridiculous battling collapses!!

going by a new report the other Cossie could pop up for a few wickets too. If Younis Khan settles quickly we should have a good 1st half of the season then we need to find someone to fill the Khan gap.

Well it will be an interesting season, we will get to see how well Taits going to go and also we now get to see the most of Cleary as well hes the only other front line paceman there now.

I hope we go for 3 seamers, maybe Putland to get his chance?

we may have found the replacement for the Far Khan gap as Booney puts it Ryan Watkins from Glamorgan. Has some reasonable stats as an all-rounder and could take the pressure off Cossie's bowling and allow him to have that extra meat pie at lunch   .

Also to add to the rumour of Shoaib that he is very keen to find a Grade club to play at before the KFC Big Bash tournament.........their Club cap has a bit of blue in it too

not yet, far as I'm aware they have missed out on this potential recruit. Although they are probably on to it now since Ben Hook put this news into his column yesterday.
