On a separate issue, did anyone read the jokes section of the Budget on the weekend? I wouldn't normally but decided to between games up at Onkas. What a load of filth!! I don't mind a dirty joke, but the crap Owen put in the budget is not for kids to read at the footy.

There was a complaint this year about the jokes being not suitable for kids etc. and being down right filthy and they were taken out for one week, sounds like they are back to that gutter standard.
I know it is probably too late this year but something has to be done about it - it may not be a big issue to some but try explaining these jokes to your kids and see how you get on.
The HFL / editors etc of the budget should be held responsible for what goes into the publication.

They used to have good stuff in the budget like player profiles and letters from supporters(although a lot of them were just Owen thinking he is funny). Now its all garbage, like some of the crap in the whats hot whats not. Really looking forward to someone else putting in for the top job in the league.

well said 2008, i think you'll find the jokes were taken out mid way through the season however after an overwhelming response Owen decided to put them back in. The majority of opinions were that they were fine! Owen puts a lot of work into the budget each week if you dont enjoy just dont buy it, it's that simple

Incorrect, you have to buy a budget on entry to grounds, particularly opposition grounds and finals. Before you have your say on the matter, go back and read saturday's budget.

Incorrect, you don't have to take one, you have to buy one, even though it has the cost on the front. Have argued with almost every gate attendant in the league on this issue (and lost).

Isn't the cost of the budget is in the entrance money. Even so if you don't like it don't take it! Go into any football change room, as most kids do, and you will hear a lot worse than that. The jokes aren't too bad. I actually thought the budget was better now than it used to be when they had those letters and other dribble.

This issue arose when one of the A grade coaches got asked by his young son what one of the jokes meant. The joke clearly had a sexual implication. Now whether you personally think the joke was harmless or not isnt the point. When buying a football budget, you should be able to presume that it will be suitable for your young child, regardless of how liberal or conservative you are, because the sexual overtone factor should be zero. Some parents may feel it is harmless, but this one didnt. The football budget should cater to everyone. The jokes are un-nessecary, and i tell you now if someone wanted to put litigation up against the HFL because they were offended it would not have a leg to stand on.

Its not censorship. You can write, film, or distribute whatever you want as long as people can make informed choices on the content before having access to it.Thats why we have a ratings system. Seeing as though no one has argued that the jokes didnt contain sexual references, and i have never seen a football budget with a sexual refences rating on the front, how can a person make an informed choice on whether or not the content is suitable for them or their children to read? As their is no indication that the content is unsuitable for children, or even Adults who may become offended, yeah i think they have left themselves open for litigation. If you think that there is no way anyone could be offended by those jokes, or feel they are unsuitable for children, then ok. But i doubt anyone would think that there isnt a possibility for someone to have a problem with those jokes, so it was stupid to put them in there and the HFL is lucky there wasnt a serious complaint.

How many do you think they'll get out to the game this week. Will the fact that Lofty and Blackwood have 3 teams each in teh gf's reduce the numbers somewhat? Hopefully it's a nice day.

Did Gigney against Hahndorf does anyone know? Will be a big in if he plays! I think it'll be an absolute cracker of a match. Two quality sides that's for sure.

I really don't care who wins two sides I can't stand playing or watching. It would be like watching Collingwood and the Power playing in a GF, a bunch of supporters who have no idea. I might sound a little sour and yeah I probably am.

Gigney played, didn't see him do a lot to 3/4 time. Think Blackwood must have been very close on full strength.

Would expect crowds to be lower, which is a big cost to HFL (finals are their biggest source of revenue?), but atleast they are two clubs with the biggest supporter bases.

Nor did i when my team wasn't playing in it. But regardless of that, it's a great day to go watch a game of local footy with a bbq and get well and truly cut! I've had a couple of absolute jaffa days at the GF's, and there is no better oval, viewing wise, than Lobethal. With any luck there'll be a bit of jail-bait out and about also just to keep things interesting.

On the budget I thought Owen said he had been threatened with legal action and that is why he stopped the jokes.

I saw the YP League GF budget on the weekend and it leaves the HFL for dead. :? All the stuff we did have about the people and clubs that make it work... but they do include netball, 8) which adds to the interest....the only problem I had was trying to find the players and No’s all squeezed in to three games a page? :( However, to promote the game/event they obviously ensure each club contributes for the League.

On the crowd at Loby I think it will be interesting to see what numbers it draws, yes they are the two biggest groups but, at Loby, in bad weather ? These teams have deliberately put opposition team supporters off with their bunker approach at home games :( and they dominate all grades in the GF so I think this will work against Owen and his plans of world domination from Cornerstone.

Go the Eagles!! :partyman:
