Racism and children are about the only things taboo when it comes to sledging.... everyone knows that, surely!!!! So if it was the case, Mount Compass fans/players/admin should be disapponted!

A Mum, it would be great to have our own league, surely we deserve one. An honest hard hitting league versus a league where snipers are as important as mail medallists!

:-k

Not sure what you mean by that FM10....

But I just think it would be good to have our own page so that we can discuss a lot more things on specific topics in specific threads.

We'll wait and see what the others think I suppose O:)

Oh just a bit of a dig at the SFL. Know of players and situations in that league that have snipers in their teams, specifically playing to take out the better players behind play!

Whereas our league doesn't have that, and we're for the better!

I totally agree with you A Mum regarding the GSFL page!

Good Weekend of Footy in the GSFL
Willunga turned it on Saturday
Steele, Hams, Portlock (a star)
Strath B's ...What a performance
Missed the juniors however
All played in a very good spirit

Sunday Strath dominated from the start in the A's
Too much pace and clean ball handling
The Creeks flogged Mclaren in the B's
McLaren 17's Good open forward line with clean skills
Langhornes worked hard all day
Saints slugged it out for a good win

As we all know there are some Italian Connections at Mclaren.
The Compass crowd were untidy in their Comments towards those of Italian decent.
No issues on the field.
The GSFL cannot stop ignorant people in the crowd yelling abuse at players.
THROW THE BALL UP AND PLAY ON

I heard the same report LF but i bet nothing will be done over it, even though i am from compass what i was told that happened on the weekend is not on. Racism should not exist at all.

WHat i mean by nothing being done about it is? The remarks that were made toward an Ethnic player from McLaren and he seemed very upset by the remarks, but because the remarks were not made toward someone of Indigenous descant then it will be sept under the carpet. Very sad but true, and if i was to find out which boys from our club said it i will be speaking to the committee about it because we dont need something like this to tarnish our clubs reputation.

The weekends out comes have been sumed up very well, the only things that I will be waiting to hear on is the Willunga B grader that was given a red card for eye gouging. The incident occured right in front of the Strath crowd and should see him get minimum 3 weeks I would have thought. Did anyone else see the incident?
Interesting comments you make about the league officals not liking the Goolwa ground and clubs for a gf LF, what was said do you know?

P.S. You wont be hearing from teamwork for a month, he copped a 1 month ban for naming a member of this forum, looks like this forum's officals are alot harder than those incharge of the GSFL!!!

After speaking with an official Saturday night the GF will be either at Mt Compass or Mclaren Vale. Compass will be the likely host if the ovals condition improves. There is a parking issue there and it needs to be addressed but i think it will be at Compass.

Goolwa oval on Saturday was great, it was firm and quick (would have been lovely to get on the front foot and push thru the covers for 4). The home rooms are nice enough and i reckon its the 1st hot shower ive had there in years. Why do the weights take precedent over the away side? Surely that weights room is where the changerooms should be as that room is much more suitable!!!! Well done Goolwa on a well presented deck.

What was Yankalilla like? Strath must have been in some touch and i anticipate a hard, tough match this week at the Vale!!!

PS. Jelom owes me a beer i did hear that too mate! I will collect from u at the earliest possible opportunity!!

Weights dont take precedent BJ. Its not just a matter of taking them out and moving the visitors in, there is a bit of work to be done. But dont you worry next year it will be good as gold. Kappars, there were no specific problems with Goolwa Oval it was just a Goolwa v The GSFL thing where they cant give credit where credit is due. It was quite funny at one stage when Bob Martin was complaining about a sprinkler box behind the goals. How can you complain when you are involved with Compass Oval, the 45 degree slope, bog hole, with no parking on the outer side

No one likes Racism but it amuses me that now Mclarens are crying wolf after the way their players and supporters behaved against Encounter Bay, it's quite hypocritical!

I think that it's not only Goolwa v the GSFL, I think other clubs have similar 'problems' (For want of a better word) where they feel they are 'guilty until proven innocent' type scenarios. A bit like how some big businesses treat their staff really !! Always can find a negative, not so good at finding positives perhaps :(

Okay, forgive my ignorance of dumbness... :D ... but...

Is there a GSFL board/committee??
What positions are held??
Is there a representative from each club involved??
Do they hold like an annual 'agm' or similar where you vote people on/off ect ??

Because hasn't it been the same people for years and years??

Just curious O:)

The Willunga B Grader you're referring to is that skinny fella that plays on ball.. I think they call him Shagga (I'm sure BJ can help me out here). He was red carded and as such took no further part in the match. I'm not up to speed with how the rules work but does that mean he automatically fronts the tribunal now or is that at the discretion of the umpire???

P32... McLarens people aren't 'crying wolf' as you say :(

This was not brought up here by any McLarens people.... and the Encounter Bay thing was completely different. From what I hear nothing was done to 'provoke' the immature idiots yelling out and thinking they are so funny at yesterdays game. With the EB thing it was 'on' right from the start of the Senior Colts and was the most ridiculous day at the footy that I have ever been to... and both sides had their 'points' of blame/faults on that day... and both sides have their story.

Two completely different scenarios.

Summary: Some people are stupid and complete idiots (unfortunately)

Panther32 I think you are getting a little bit confused, it looks as though the quotes that you have highlighted have not come from McLaren people at all, but actually Goolwa & Compass people!

Where has this eye gouging come from? Who decided it would be a good idea to maybe win a game of footy if we stick our fingers in the oppositions eyes? Who does that? The player, if guilty, should be red carded and suspended for atleast 2 weeks.

He was red carded. Remember the league officals like teams that wear red and white so he might get off!

Is a red card an automatic 2 week ban? As with 3 yellow's in 2 seasons is? Eye gouging deserves atleast 2, must have been serious to get a red card as most umpires are soft as butter and let things like that go.

A Mum
Yes there is a GSFL Committee
Herman Lucas is the President

As like our own clubs, they are all volunteers and oversee the whole Competition.
Tribunal, Interleague games, Finals and allocation of finals at which ground, Clearances, Player qualification and registration, Umpires, (goal, field, boundary, Interchange stewards for finals, etc etc. All the things that we take for granted.
And just like our football committes they cop all the crap when things stuff up.

If society has a problem, whether it be obesity, racism, drink driving, talking on mobile phones when driving etc etc.. Football Clubs will have those issues, as will the League that administers those clubs.

My point
We all struggle to get good volunteers to help with our club..SO DOES THE GSFL. wE HAVE A GOOD COMPETITION PRETTY WELL RUN AT CLUB LEVEL AND ADMINISTERED PRETTY WELL BY THE LEAGUE.
A FEW PEOPLE MESS IT UP FOR EVERYONE

HERE ENDS THE SERMON

Not sure whether it is an automatic 2 week ban, not sure on that, but you are both right, it should be atleast two weeks.

I don't think the umpires are soft, not in A's, but in B's a lot of them are new to the umpiring game and aren't sure themselves of the ramifications of dishing out a red card!

So for a B grade umpire to give out a red card, it would have been serious!

But yes, the red and white may get him off  :D  :D
