When tehy were up in Darwin in 2003 for the test series and one day games they Aussie boys were in holiday mode. We were telling our NT blokes to watch how the test Boys prepare and to copy them in preparing for elite cricket...

The test boys were out on teh piss - mate I'll play harder grade games than this one of them said....

The decision to send Symonds home sounds a bit rough. From what I've read the meeting he missed was called when Symonds was already out on the water.

Andrew Symonds' Australian cricket career is at the crossroads after his two strongest allies told him he lacked commitment to the team because he went fishing.

Symonds was sent home from Darwin and will take no part in the one-day series against Bangladesh because he missed a compulsory team meeting because he was fulfilling his other passion.

Symonds' passion for fishing is well documented and he is believed to have taken to the water early on Friday, the day before the first Bangladesh match. When a compulsory team meeting was called later that morning, Symonds did not know about it as he was already wetting a line. An optional training session was later held at the Marrara Cricket Ground, which he had already decided not to attend.

Now there seems to be some miss-communication here as the meeting was called for after Symonds had made other arrangements for the day. Either it is genuine that Symonds had left for the day with no knowledge of the event or there is someone (a journalist) bending the truth

Just in case anyone missed this, it was a classic. SEN employee Tony Schibeci was sent to the airport to interview Australian Olympians as they arrived back in Australia. He marches up to basketballer he believes is Lauren Jackson .... "Lauren Jackson, what's it like to be back in Australia" .......

The conversation follows a little like this ...

"I'm not Lauren Jackson"

"Yes you are, I was told you were Lauren Jackson"

"Sorry, I'm not, that's her over there".

Silence for a few seconds and then ....

"Who are you then?"

"I'm Penny Taylor"

Silence again for a few seconds and then the classic .....

"Are you sure you're not Lauren Jackson?".

Typical friggin' journalists. Even when it's abudantly clear they've made an error, they simply won't accept they are wong. Journalisrs take themselves so seriously, but little do they know all they do is create sources of amusement to people such as myself. There wouldn't be many I would want in my employment.

OK - if he doesn't want to play real Cricket he can chase the money and self-indulgence until he goes down the tube due to his lack of committment and self-discipline, and the resultant deteriorating form...

This article indicates that his commitment has been questionable since the Harby "Monkey" saga last year. Understandable if true, although it is still unclear when the meeting was called.
