Quite right Essbee. Anytime a club decides to set up a deal such as this it must attain approval from the AFL as Carlton have done. The AFL have approved the green ambassador thing so Carlton aren't cheating (that was your rather revealing word that you used, all I said is the Carlton don't respect the salary cap) but can you tell me why Carlton's scheme got the go ahead but the Essendon deal was not approved? I think I have already provided the answer to this above but happy to be corrected if wrong.

If I was a Carlton fan Id be disappointed that they arent developing their juniors, but doing a Sydney and getting the Foreign Leigon into their midfield, is this sustainable in the long term? No.....

lets have a look -

Stevens - Port Collingwoods fault
Judd - WCE Collingwood's fault...again
Scotland - Collingwood I blame Collingwood
Cloke - Collingwood Bloody Collingwood again
Ackland - Power/Saints Won't be there next year

add Hadley, Saddington Won't be ther next year, Pfeiffer also...

add Kerr (and potential targets White/Brogan/Lade) and their aint too many "Blue Boys" there....

How are Murphy, Carazzo and Gibbsy going to get experience? Might find them wanting out...

Gibbsy and experience, mmm, considering he's played about 40 games, not bad for a 18 y/o kid
Murphy as per Gibbs minus missing half of season 2006 with a shoulder
Carazzo ditto (and besides he's from Geelong)

Cloke was de listed by Collingwood, and considering Carltons draft penalties and ruck players, was a good pickup.
Scotland asked for a move and Carlton gave them Brent Hall (Who ?), so that was a win. Once again that was in the
dark era...
Hadley was a risk, but he was recruited to help develop the kids, and his form until injured was good.
Pfeiffs was delisted by Adelaide, and with Carlton giving away the draft pick to secure Judd, saw it as an opportunity
to get a good kid with some potential...

As for the "Blue Boys" comment. That applies to EVERY team. How many did the Kangaroos bring through the juniors to the
seniors ? Unless you have a real old bloke on the list, probably none. The days of having born and bred "Blue Boys" or
"Shinboners" are long gone....

And as for Kerr...no thanks....

Rik E Boy wrote:Chris Judd is a 'green ambassador', a spokesman on recyclying employed by guess, who Visyboard. Visy or course is run by Carlton president Dick Pratt, a man who pumped millions into the Carlton Football Club. This solved a real problem for the AFL as Carlton were beginning to look like Fitzroy for a while there and if the mighty Blues ever bit the dust the loss of customers for the AFL would be a real blow in the collective hip pocket. Thus Dick Pratt is not only the 'White Knight' for the Carlton Football Club but also by extension the AFL as well. This means that the AFL approved Judd's green ambassador role but what I don't know of course is just how much money is paid by Visy to the Carlton skipper.

Now you don't have to go too far back to remember that Essendon players were attempting to register domain names (as they are the only club that controls its own online presence) but this deal was knocked back by the AFL as this was deemed to be under the salary cap (but Judd's Visy deal is not). When you think about the above you can start to understand why. Carlton never has and never will respect the salary cap and the AFL wants Pratt's millions with Victorian clubs once again on the rise. They dearly would like to see Collingwood AND Carlton in the eight sooner rather than later.

This means that Kerr is a very good chance to come to Carlton next season even though their weaknesses are in the ruck (at least until Hampson and Kruezer fully develop) and in key positions in the backline. It won't be any salary cap considerations that stop the Kerr move. But I believe that Kerr is the biggest frontrunner in the league. When playing for a winning club he thrives as a second or third midfielder but when the heat is on he starts swinging in Jeff Farmer fashion. Carlton have Andy D blowing them under the table but still don't have an idea about building a list without tanking or scamming the cap. They are a club I find impossible to respect.

REB

Good post REB, except the last two lines. I think our list is coming along fine. The AFL imposed the draft sanctions on us for the cap thing, so we repaid the favour by making sure we "earnt" the picks

As for the respect,as Sticks once said "We are Carlton, **** the rest"
