film 'stork' why is it a ?

Postby bayman » Wed Aug 06, 2008 10:08 pm

i watched the film last night called 'stork' as the advertising said 'a classic aussie film' so i thought i'd watch it, i thought it was very ordinary with no real storyline, i infact laughed twice in it (2 jokes) & the only highlight was a topless & very young jackie weaver

so can someone tell me why is it a classic ? :? :?
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

Films such as Stork, Alvin Purple, Petersen, Barry McKenzie, Stone tend to get a free pass because they were at the forefront of the 1970s renaissance of Australian cinema. To some degree, you could argue they are the proud parents of Picnic at Hanging Rock, Mad Max, Breaker Morant, Gallipoli and everything else that followed.

For the most part, these were the first local films to really show and celebrate contemporary Australia without the dreaded 'cultural cringe'. This was a major reason for their success - Australians flocked to see themselves on the big screen. So in that respect they are landmark and culturally important films.

If not for the runaway box-office success of some of these flicks, especially Barry McKenzie and Alvin Purple, the local industry could have died then and there. But since they made money, governments and investors across the country got behind the fledging industry.

Their artistic merits is another argument altogether...

Classic is a pretty flexible quality.
A film doesn't have to be good to be a classic - in advertising terms if often just has to be 'old'.

What you didn't get a laugh out of Bruce Spence's face and body???

Saw this film a very very very long time ago.
My only real memory is Stork drinking heaps of beer and eating heaps of cheese and throwing up on a canvas, and calling it art!

Actually, would like to see this film again.
Yeah, Naah,..... Bollocks!

I saw it once. Once was enough.
That also applied "Alvin Purple and . Barry McKenzie" though they were more enjoyable.
Stone and Petersen I didn't even bother to see once.

Fortunately the Aussie film industry did improve.

Bruce Spence was in City Homicide the other night.
He looked sick.
