Alcohol culture out at the tower is fast becoming infamous, This seems to go hand in hand with the disgraceful behavior as seen on Saturday. A group of united supporters behind the goals had a day out with the language and racial comments they directed toward the Virginia players. As i stated before the APFL has no set racial vilification laws, strange when Australian law states it is a criminal act to racially vilify some one! A bit of sh*t stirring ok, fine, 8) BUT LEAVE THE RACIST SH*T OUT. Passionate supporters are the life blood of all clubs, but these sorts of people should not be tolerated.

Twogood4u, u raise a very good point.

Racism should not be tolerated on and off the sporting field, like you said a little tongue 'n' check is fine, but its sad that these people don't know how far is to far.

However, given the restraints of police officers in country towns this can not be policed at all. Therefore its up to the Clubs themselves to identify these problems and address them accordingly.

Or, dare i say it, the umpires to make a judgement on it and award a free kick to the team who is being vilified, in the same way they give frees if the umpires themselves are abused from the coaches boxes.

What are people’s thoughts on a potential solution for this???

Good point too good. If these people did yell out racial slurs then that is simply not good enough no matter who they are or who they support. I'm pretty sure I know the ones you're talking about and can I just say that whilst they were there on Saturday supporting us they are by no means a part of our club. I had seen only about 2 of those bunch of guys before and the rest was their first time at any of our games.

It is very dissapointing to hear these comments from you if this did happen as no racial slurs should ever have to be tolerated in todays world. Once again I will stress the point that they are not from Long Plains, but had come up in "support" of one of their mates who plays for us. They are not a part of our club and I'm sure that every United supporter would be dissapointed to hear about this.

MC, Butters and Twoo Good,

It is very disappointing that United supporters whether they are from the plains or not, dish out these racial slurs. I don't understand why people do it, especially when they have players in their team that are from a different heritage or background if you like.

I say kick them out from the grounds and award a free to the opposing side in their goal square.

Like MC said, he hasn't seen most of those "supporters" before. It doesn't matter which footy team you support, there's no place for racism. I'm sure every club has a few dickhead hangers on who are friends of friends of players.

Yep agree 100%. No place anywhere for racism. As a United person, i certainly do not condone it & re-affirm that those people were certainly not members of our club. I doubt if they would know more than a couple of United people & they certainly didn't hang around after the game.

footys meant to be a enjoyable sport, but when people yell shit from the side lines and when water runners abuse players as i have seen a number of times in the junior grades this yr,and i mean shit i cant put on here its time to rid of these idiots as i will call them out of the league,i know off at least 3 juniors who wont be back to play in this league again cause of the shit they have copped and at times i hold the umpires to blame for not haveing the guts to pull these people up,as for the rasicm its againts the law in every aspect either at sport or work,it got ugly last yr between mallala and united after the first game and though the person was not a magpie member the fact he was standing next to the coaches box is enough to say where he was from

Yep, no good, racist slurs...

If you can't come up with a good payout without resorting to a dog act then you simply should just shut up.

You would like to think that we are a mature group out here on the plains and if some ring-in's decide to start that rubbish, can i suggest that the player takes a stand and say's something to his captain, who then should immediatly inform the umpires.

The blokes in white to halt the game and they should inform those meatheads that their behaviour is sub standard and ask that they find somewhere else to yell racist garbage. Then you would have forty players from both sides glaring at them, if they refuse to leave it has to be the responsibilty of the home side to inform them that their presence is not required, so the game may commence.

I'm pretty sure all Amateur leagues have to have home match officials who are responsible for the behaviour of their teams spectator, as i said before i'd like to think that we would be a bit more mature.

Yes that bloke who runs water for juniors (obviously known to the club) should be given his marching orders. After racially abusing a junior and after being told to leave the kids alone he abused(racial remarks) the spectators. BUT he is still there and still being abusive. If the football club wont bar these people then the APFL should, Then impose a fine for tolerating these people.

A great post, the suggestion you put is full of merit. Somehow these morons need to be kept away from our sport, get the league to put forward to the umps to do as you suggest. If it happens too often, watch the club officials put a stop to it by flexing their muscles to the problem.
In the SAAFL, it is the club's responsibility to keep ALL spectators under control, not just members of your own club.
The APFL has to drive this along with support from clubs, do it now before it becomes a bigger issue.

Any blokes in particular there fruitbat? Sounds like your on channel there mate. Copped a flogging recently? The boys dont need an excuse to head to the pub mate, sounds like we may need a similar event to get blokes like yourself there. Yours would be held at the Termo in Balak wouldnt it?

Good idea Rooster. It has a lot more meaning when Captains & whole teams are objecting. Having just umpires police it is unfair on the umps & really everyone on the ground should take offence. Something like this could be set up by the league with the clubs signing on & then driving it. The AFL has done a good job in this area, it's now time that country leagues got on board!

I think everyone has forgotten about the game which could well be the game of the round, out at Virginia, when they take on the Bombers..... I honestly think the boys from the bridge will win and win well, They truely deserve another win.

and in the other minor games :D i think Balak will win and also win the FLAG. and also i think that Mallala will be too good for the eagles.

Good luck to everyone in there last game and well done if you made the finals and good luck with that.... May the BEST team win.

SD,
Might be 'stating the obvious' and it has 'been done to death', but it ain't fixed the problem. It won't go away by thrusting your head back in the sand like "old man emu" either!
It's got to be driven by the whole footy population.

I understand that CC. But by the way everyone on here is ranting and raving, your making sound like its a massive issue in the APFL and that it is a consistent problem. Rubbish!! This could not be further from the truth. Yes there is a minority of tools that still resort to it (apparently, from a SINGLE report on this forum), but in my entire playing time i have never heard of such a thing happening. 99.9% of society understand that its unacceptable.
