It's still a long way up and IF we can hang on to these recruits then who knows. 09 is a long way away yet for us. Just got to keep trying to bridge the gap.

Still a long way off the Premiership contenders, but not all that far away from Finals, Rodney. Two games in particular tell us how close the Sharks really are ---- v. Port at Commercial Road, and knocking the Roos over at Morphettville. That side went on from there to storm into the Eight, finishing seventh.
I'm tipping the Sharks playing finals in 2009.

I take it by what im reading is the sharks are going to continue to improve.So does this mean you guys will re sign all your recurits from this year,if this is the case good work.Intersesting to hear "if they do a preseason" surely your not paying out money to players who think footys all about games and not about all the work thats required thru out the pre season to not only get fit but to galvinize the group so they want to play for each other,if you guys can get that to happen your really gonna give the finals a shake next year.Just a thought i dont know much about the runnings of aldinga maybe some one could shed some light

Cheers for that, would have involved a hell of a lot of driving if you were in the Hills League

know all, the pre-season, or lack of, has been a problem since i have been involved with the club, which is goin on 6 years now.

not only lack of numbers willing to put in the hard yards, but also the actual training isn't that hard. i mean, we all walk off huffing and puffing, but that just isnt enough. although, having said that, in the last couple of years the numbers have picked up and the training has gotten harder, but would say it's still not up to the standard required to be fit enough for for quaters on a saturday.

and going past pre-season, the fact that the club signs on players and agrees that they dont have to train everynight is a big mistake. but i can understand when we're recruiting guys from close to the city, it's hard to make them travel the 40km+ two nights a week, then again on a saturday.

Solution! Either a) get people who are willing to go the distance for training or b) get the kids on board before they all **** off to Willunga!

Might sound harsh but hey - be ruthless! You'll get results.

The clubs main priority should be getting an 18's side. Previously Juniors coming out of 16's weren't confident enough to play B or A grade so travelled to Willunga for another year of Juniors.

If you have a few recruits coming from the other side of town get the club to be pro active and organise a club with them to train with for the other night and then get goals that they have to pass to play/get paid with on saturdays.

Here's the thing

a) there are guys who train twice a week but refuse to play A grade or only do so if really pushed - I can tell you how many nights they will train if told playing A grade - 0.
b) The Big Bang is correct, some guys were signed up with the club accepting one night a week due to other commitments, eg. Dot has uni tuesdays etc. I know I'd rather have him than not
c) What about players such as Rigby Barnes out at South, Sam Talbot? Should they not play because they haven't trained with the group?

I think blokes have to stop looking at what everyone else is getting or doing and concentrate on themselves, fairytales don't happen, it is the same as standing a gun player, I couldn't give a sh*t how much he is getting or who he is.

Any truth to the rumour Russell Hart is seeking a coaching job & may not be lining up with the Sharks next year, unless they appoint him coach for season 2009.

Cmon now no mercy, you should know better than anyone harty keeps his cards close to his chest, I heard he has been offered a couple of coaching jobs and asked to apply for a couple more, perhaps he is just weighing up his options at the moment...

I didn't say definate a2m, you'd know him better than me obviously, if the Sharks job was offered to him 1- would he be interested playing & coaching them?
2- Or does he want a clean break from Aldinga to start fresh elsewhere?

If its true & he wants to coach my words of wisdom for him is give up playing & concentrate on coaching only, its too hard doing both, he's coached before but played at the same time for that club, he knows the game, i believe he'll be a better coach for it.

ZC, i couldnt i agree more, we do need the U18s. but we had a team last year, and just off the top of my head, only 3 or 4 of them stayed this year. a fair few of them went to myponga to play another year of juniors because they "weren't confident" playing seniors. but they have been playing A grade down there. hope they're spewin, leaving for a bulls**t reason, and winning less games, and probably not learning as much as they would have if they stayed at Aldinga.
