So many ways to look at this and it would never be resolved, is the SFL harder due to the fact the skill level may not be as high therefore more contested football? Harder because the grounds are smaller not allowing as much space week in/week out? The SFL had a reputation for dirty play which i think is being slowly lost as footy just doesnt accept these 'thugs' playing anymore. Its not accepted by anyone, whether it be the opposition or even your own club!

Both leagues have there strengths and weaknesses!

the tribunal system in the GSFL is a joke! if umpires dont start to report players then going to the police may be the only option. This year there have been 4 reports. 3 of the 4 reports have been initialised by clubs. Umpires are either too weak to make an on the spot call or they dont want to deal with the issue on a Tuesday night. How many of the 48 send offs should have been reportable offences? Is it too easy for an umpire to show a card rather than officially report?

As for the 14 weeks that the Saints S/Colt got, yes he deserved a suspension but surely it wasn't twice as bad as the Barry Hall incident? The precendent has now been set, even if the umpire doesn't see it (clubs will report), you will probably now be looking at at least 5 for a striking charge. if someone sustains an injury to a great extent then 10+ is where we are looking.

Luvs footy good point about umps not wanting to deal with it on a tuesday, I ask these questions does the reporting umpire get remuneration for attending tribunal eg. 1 hour drive $20 for petrol plus 2 hours of your own time, and when reporting a player during a game you have to make sure you get it right because he will spend the rest of the game on the bench which i think is a harsh penalty if you are proven innocent.Maybe we as a league need to come up with something a bit different whats your thoughts mate :ANAL:

Hey Jelom

Everyone has Bad Blood with the Bays. They are one of the clubs the canteen girls told me, who spend nothing at the canteen when they play at our oval and Willunga are the other.

Get rid of the send off system. if the offence is serious then get the book out and sought it out when the heat of the battle has settled down in the tribunal. I know that its hard to find umpires but i would have thought that tuesday night tribunal is part of the gig. Just like I know that when I coach I have to be at training on Tuesday and Thursday.

=D> =D> Very well said LF but our umpires are in a combined southern/great southern league and the travel is a hell of a distance to victor I think remunerate them get rid of the full match send off and maybe we as a league should set up our own panel of umpires and get some Bgrade games umpired by proper umps nothing against the guys that fill in but they need training an observer and maybe just a couple of extra dollars, something definately needs to happen :D
