Public Service (Commonwealth), easy, no stress (at my level anyway), lots of perks, flex, etc, no weekend work (which means I can go to the footy every weekend), very little overtime, very little on call (and when I am I get paid more :D )

I'm a nuclear medicine technologist. Not actually at work at the moment...off on maternity leave, but have to go back in January. Basically I play with radioactive stuff, inject it into people & take pictures of them.

Technical Advisor (Sales Rep) for a Pest Control company.... Salary based position with car & phone, I work the hours to suit. I don't mind working till 8 at night, not so keen on the early stuff. I'll work weekends to, if required, as the closure rate is a lot higher, and we've got budgets to meet. I started out at "the bottom", cut my teeth spraying termiticides etc, worked my way up.

Business Analyst for the Federal Govt, good job but its funny as I'm almost ashamed to say who I work for yet I get great pay and great flexibility and super super.
I think its just the stigma.
Recently applied for a Web Admin/Marketing/Events Coordinator job with the SANFL, that would have been my dream job but would have involved a 15K drop in pay and less flexibility, both of which I don't think I coud afford.
Flexibility is great especially when bringing up kids, I've been part time on various hours for the last 9 years.
I'd rather be a programmer too, less talking to business owners, less planning, less writing and more fun playing around with programs.
Where I work the BA does all the planning, testing, project management, implementing, designing, etc.
Also unlike the old days different depts pay different wages with different conditions as they're all on different agreements now. If you do enter the public service, try to find a Dept with mainly men, if you get stuck in one like mine where middle age women dominate the work force there tends to be stuff all clout when negotiating agreements.
For eg ATO has much better pay rates and conditions than Centrelink.

I can still remember at school when the teacher asked what everyone wanted to be, most boys said Fireman, Policeman, Footballer, etc.
I was the sole kid that said Barman. If only I could get what a couple of the North lads get paid for being Barmen I'd be set!

They're getting church money, compared to what the Port Magpies players earn...

I have a job interview with Centrelink in a week or 2, pretty funny being a Centrals supporter and all.

? My only comment was that Port would have the highest paid barmen in the league, which would have to be pretty close to the mark, given the fact they're now the "unofficial" 17th team of the AFL. Emo Rooster? I don't live at home with my middle class parents, who paid for 5K's worth of ink to be put on my arms, or like their similarly positioned music idols...
