Well at least in GSFL the club that holds the finals gets the takings from the gate, in Hills the Asociation pinches all the takings made on the gate for every final, and i have a feeling it is the same with the canteen but im not 100% sure on that one.

Why dont they just play all GF @ the best grounds & rotate the gate and canteens? commonsense rarely prevails in the GSFL.

Southern have this system in place where 3 or 4 clubs share the canteen duties on GF day and get the takings from that.

Yeah but the Southern league changed their Grand Finals to Noarlunga Oval (Panthers home ground) and since they changed it the atmosphere at Grand Finals are sh*thouse. I would much prefer a Grand Final at a club ground

The SFL has changed how the gate is taken this year,in previous years SFL took all the gate and had Rotery man the gate and take a slice. This year the host club in finals has to pay the SFL the gate up front based on the average over the last 3 years for that final. For example Noarlunga is hosting 1'st semi 1 v 4 and prelim and has payed up front 10.5k for hosting!! We will be stacking the cars in every spot we can. We also take all bbq/beer booth's and what ever go's over our bar. On grand final day it all changes they have a couple of host clubs at South Adelaide and they take a cut of profits from good's sold. (worst desission the SFL has made no atmosphire and that great country feel that has always been at Pt Noarlunga is lost)

The league definitely keeps all gate takings. They did have a system not that long ago where the GF had to be played on one of the coast/central ovals ie. Victor, Encounter Bay, Port Elliot or Goolwa and the catering was rotated between all clubs but this was voted out by club delegates. Seemed to work pretty well at the time and would be even better now ( no Pt.Elliot). They also had the no home ground rule in then as well.

I'm personally an adovocate for rotating the finals to all grounds. Provided the oval is in a satisfactory condition there shouldn't be an issue. A few years ago Langhorne Creek won a GF at Yankalilla. I think it was about an hour and a half on the bus but we didn't care. When you're playing a final I don't think it makes a huge difference if you're travelling 20 mins, 40 mins or an hour. No matter where you have it there's going to be clubs travelling further than others. It's good to see every club get the chance to showcase their town, oval and facilities once a decade on Grand Final day.

The trouble is LIMB that most grounds ARN"T in satisfactory condition to host a Grand Final. Why would clubs want to showcase their oval and facilities when most of them are CRAP.

I just went and walked across the Goolwa Oval to see how it's handling the rain and was very impressed. Apart from a couple of patches on each goal line and the area covering the cricket pitch there's no mud to speak of. It will be a great venue for the 2nd semis.

Hey Limb while you were walking did you notice whether anyone was working on the away changerooms?they could do with a bit of attention

The Goolwa Oval has been in terrible condition (nothing like pongy) over the last couple of weeks but we made a conserted effort to minimise the traffic in the lead up to the 2nd semi. its now starting to get back to a good state. imagine the creek change rooms and the Goolwa surface!! As for the visitors changerooms, stay tuned for a big re-vamp over summer.

Quite funny there LF as i had just written a comment regarding the clubs not all having the Creek changerooms, or the Goolwa surface!

I think the GF should be played on the best ground each year. I understand the rotating to make it all fair and just but it needs to be played at the best ground possible. They dont rotate the AFL GF, they play it at the best stadium available!

There are a few contenders but each one has its downfall. Weve all had our say on best oval/facilities and thats what the GF should be based on. Canteen takings etc should be given to a different club etc. The last 4 years they have rotated there are no issues with any of the grounds but I'd say Strath takes it out as the best GF oval. The ground is in good nick come GF day, the facitilies are as good as anyones on the whole (away rooms are not too bad). If the GF was to be played there every year im sure the players would not object.

If they leave it any longer they'll have to get the upgrades approved by the heritage trust.
