Cassisi for mine,but I think Shaun Burgoyne will get the nod with Cassisi or Salopek his VC.

On a different tangent,what about Dean Brogan? Some will laugh,well,many will laugh,but this year he has tempered his ways and has been one of our best on field leaders.He works as hard as anyone at the club off the field and sets a great example (well now,anyway).

IMO he will be in the top 3 of our B&F this year and should be given some recognition for the way he has turned things around both on and off field.He wont get the job,I know that,but IMO should at least be mentioned.It would only be for 2 maybe 3 years and it would give the Salopek's and Chaplin's of the world time to mature.

Having said all that.S.Burgoyne,Salopek and Cassisi are the only ones likely at this stage.

Is there any chance Tredders does it one more time?

Dean Brogan has 'tempered his ways'? Funny, all I saw down at Geelong was his temper. I suppose you have to cut him some slack though as he did have to travel through an airport in order to get there......

I can't comment on 2008 performances because I've not seen any matches (stupid ******* landlord not letting me have Sky), but who was Port's rock in defence in 2007 when we made the GF?

Form was good when playin loose & team going well, would like to think a captain plays well when the chips are down eg K Cornes or Cassisi.

In my opinion its probably a Kane Cornes for mine. I feel after Kane you should be looking the Salopek direction.

Chaplin has been ordinary in 2008............gone backwards at a hundred miles an hour. Lucky to be in the starting 18 IMO.

Personally i think that he struggles when he's not match fit, when he comes back from injury after a few weeks off, he really seems to be incredibly rusty, and this year there's not the support from Wakelin and thats made things even worse.

I think that is what he has really missed this year Wakelin helping him out to make him look good. Carlile hasn't been able to do it as he is learning how to beat his own opponent first without helping other defenders something which i think will come with time he is a beauty.

Chaplin lived off Wakelin's experience and now it isn't there and he has showed what sort of player a very ordinary one.

As we all know a defence can only stand up if the midfield does the right thing,pressuring the player with the ball upfield,it is fair to say that Port's midfield this year has been less than productive going forward and even less so when the opposition has had the ball.Our KPI's for hard ball gets,tackles and contested footy are way down,not making the backmans job any easier.

This is the main reason Chaplin has struggled,although I think the point about Wakelin helping him is true to some extent.

On the other side of the coin you have Gilham at Hawthorn who for 5 years has been a fringe player at best.His form this year is a result of the immense pressure the Hawthorn mid fielders apply.
