As far as Robertstown goes, teams generally play to the level of their competition. A good way to improve a club is to put them in a better competition. This is shown every year in the amateur league. Clubs going up a division recruit heavily, train harder and put in more work to be competitive.

you most prob are right that most top div4 teams would fancy themselves.
(as they would against some of the div 3 sides!!)

but i think you forget that many amateur league players have played (or are playing) in the APFL.
and from what i've heard most put the league at around div3 (obviosuly depends on top/bottom teams)

dont u have a player ex. apfl? and your club has tried recruiting others from apfl?

Have heard that this will be Amos Wilson's last season at Hummocks. Wants to try his hand elsewhere next year. Congratulations big fella on a good career and a couple of premierships in the APFL. Just work on your goal kicking for next year!

We've got a few people who have played APFL over the years. As far as recruiting others it's no secret Searley signed with us but had his clearance rejected. However I doubt we'd recruit anyone underneath the standard of an association player.

I think Div 3 is around the mark for the top 3 teams. Div 2 is a very high standard and every year the div 3 teams coming up have to recruit at least 5 or so quality players to stay up. Div 2 has been especially good and having seen Uni play(they are sitting 5th but may miss out on the 5 depending on this week) they would romp all over the APFL. This isn't a knock against the APFL, the SAAFL has a far greater population base to draw from and you'd have to expect the top 20 city teams to be better than the best country teams out there.

I definately agree with Shriek, the top APFL teams would not be very competitive in div 2. Even a Full Strength Mallala, Balak, Hummocks, United.

I seen quite a few Div 2 games this year, and i know the APFL standard.

Press release from the Rooster:

Good afternoon and thank you all for coming, firstly as you all know Two Wells chose to pursue the idea of developing youth a few years back and has blooded many local youngsters, but alas with this comes a little time in the shade and a few turns on the wrong end of the flogging stick.

We, like most clubs sought out some more experienced players from elsewhere to supplement any defeciencies in our team, with the thought of turning things around. The recent imports we have had, in my experience, have been very good and have given Two Wells a little something, but again at this time of year with things not working out as we would have hoped the club takes a look at what's happening.

Unfortunatley for a couple of blokes, who are top lads, their level of involvement, committment, support and workrate has waned and in an effort to get some run into a few more young cocks, the coaching panel has left them out.

Now i'm not going to name these blokes as many people read this forum and these guys are good blokes, and they don't deserve to be treated as pariah's because they havent trained as hard as others or put much back into the club.

Bottom line is we will endeavour to compile a squad that we think will win premierships, not just snag a few games along the journey. And as anyone from HWE or Mallala will tell you it takes a special group of men to be able to do that. We are taking this opportunity over the next two weeks to have a look at some kids who are stand outs in the senior colts and get some cohesion as a group.

So to put any would be rumour mongers to the axe, these blokes haven't been sacked, nor have they been shown the door, it is simply a case of blooding juniors Vs playing players who's enthusiasm has petered out. And i would suggest that most clubs with our ladder position would do the same.
Sorry people I only deal in facts!

Anyone care to add any (more?) pros and cons for the APFL and potential acceptance of Robertstown. Personnally I don't really care whether APFL is a similar standard to SAAFL Div2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or C1, I am more interested in what is happening in our league currently.

If RT are hoping to improve their standard by playing closer to Metro then that would be good for them - is it in their long term plans? Is it good for APFL? Should RT go to NEFL? Should RT play riverland independant league?

Lee is indeed a gun and local player - played all junior football - in fact probably played all his football in the Red and White. Definitely playing tomorrow.

His younger brother Jarred is close to getting a league game with the Eagles - could be as close as next week. He is also a gun.

I think there'd be a bit of grumbling if Robertstown entered the Independent comp.
They won't anyway as they want to keep their B grade and their various netball sides.

Congratulations “The Rooster” and “Jumbo” on the win Saturday. What I great game of Football to watch with both sides fielding so many young players it was an extremely highly skilled game and a great game to watch which looked to be played in the right spirit. I am not sure about the age of the TW players but they did look young. The HB team had only 1 player over the age of 25 playing Saturday and that was ‘supercoach’, we had 11 players under the age of 21 with 6 of them being under 18. The other 9 players were all between 21-25 years of age. Even though the score line in the end was heartbreaking, I enjoyed the game as it was great to watch good young local talent go head to head and both clubs doing the same thing through the week and looking at the juniors of the club to come up and not worrying about putting money into players pockets that are not deserving.

I think both you boys would agree that if both clubs can keep the players that were on the park Saturday and then inject the right kind of import players to the team that both these sides can look forward to an exciting few years.

Well done again boys and unfortunately as a fair bit of this year has gone the HB boys have been extremely competitive but can’t seem to be able to get over that winning line.

How do people see the Top 4 at the end of the home & away season??

My top 4 looks like this:
1. Mallala
2. Balak
3. Hummocks
4. United

Very interesting to note that Balak, Hummocks & United have all lost to Mallala by roughly 3-4 goals in there last encounters. I think that eveyone in the top 4, on their given day can knock off anyone else in the top 4.

It makes for a great Finals

So Rooster your saying that these blokes are willing to hang around, train and remain involved but will be rested cos your trying to get a look at some young blood? and they're happy to do that? They must love their footy!

Balaklava are shaping as the team best suited to beat the Magpies. They have certainly hit their straps at the right time of the season.
The Eagles have the Bye and then play Mallala.

Any injuries for Balak Hazbeen?

Top four:

Mallala
Balak
United
HW Eagles
1. M Hayden.

Im sure there are great players in most divisions, but arent we talking about teams?? I dont think telling everyone that there is just one ruckman better than Adam Ohara is a glowing endorsement for Div 6, nor a strong point for a debate.
