Heard the numbers were a bit low at the SCA AGM with not all clubs turning up. Only half a dozen people other than the executive. Where does this leave the SCA in the future with clubs not interested in turning up and helping out??

Also heard that Reynella are only putting in U/13's so this will leave another team out of B grade which will only 4/5 teams depending on nominations.

Yes Reynella are completely out of the SCA except for 13's but this was to be expected unfortunately.
Only 4 sides nominated for B Grade. Sullies didn't turn up, not that they could nominate sides anyway because they owe the association lots of $$$$$$.
Word is Happy Valley might be coming back in,, anyone from the Hills comp confirm ?
Where does this leave the SCA ? A fast diminishing competition in one of the fastest growing areas in the state???

In relation to this Smithy RCC surveyed all senior players earlier this year, both those in Adelaide Turf and SCA and nearly every player said they wanted to play turf, and I agree that it is unfortunate, but the players have spoken.

Nothing against the current SCA committee at all because they work hard and keep the association going but I don't think that you will find them looking at a merger with GSCA. Maybe SCA need to look at a different format and have A,B and C grade with the B grade being a development grade where you have a maximum of 5 guys over 23 and the rest under 23. Most of your good young kids will be playing A Grade at 17/18 but this format allows for the late developers to still play a decent standard and pushes the older guys back to C grade instead of having your juniors playing C/D grade. Just my thoughts.

In SCA we tend to lose a lot of guys at the 19/20/21 age group because of work commitments but also because they don't want to put up with the carry on they cop in C/D grade.

It will also strenghten our Association team (as it has dropped off recently) as the young guys are playing a higher standard of cricket.

As a long time player and person involved in the running of a club in the SCA I feel a need for a change to the structure of the game to keep the young lads keen and to try and bring back some of the lost players.

The greatest problem when trying to get the extra lads to play is that they "don't want to stand around in the sun all day" and "the games are too long". I have for years tried to convince them otherwise as I am/was a great lover of the 2 day 75 over format.

I never want to see the SCA turn into a one dayer comp but changes to the current game need to be looked at to keep the comp alive.

My thoughts are to shorten the 2 day format to either a 60 or 65 over innings. The last 15 overs of the day seem to turn even the great cricket loves off. With a 60 over format you could break the day up into 3 x 20 over sessions. I still believe this would give both batters and bowlers a chance to score high and take wickets without it turning into a slog-a-thon. With this the games could start a little later thus giving players more time for family and other weekend activities etc.

Just a thought to see what others think?

Just sitting at the Flaggy having a quite ale and heard that the Falcons are having a vote on whether to stay in SCA, or go to Hills or Adelaide Suburban.

Any truth to the rumour??

Surely SCA can't afford to lose anymore teams, with Reynella gone and Sullies always a year to year proposition depending on the fines.
