Geez we complained at Goolwa on the weekend beacuse we had 2 mud patches on the oval. I think we were lucky looking at that photo at pongy. Whats the creek oval looking like?

Hey Luvs footy Im not goin to jump on the Goolwa band wagon but your oval has extermely good drainage(sandy base) if this rain keeps up in the following weeks I reckon you guys may host some finals. Is it true there is hockey played on your oval cant beleive it,Mt Compass have the GF.
WHo have you got last 2 games and are any of them at home.

Rediculous using Compass for the GF. It is the GSFL showpiece and they do that! Sure rotate the games so everyone gets a go, but the GF, you have to stage it on the best the GSFL has.
What is the perfect ground to play it on.
Goolwa - great surface but shocking amenities.
Victor - great big oval but again disgraceful opposition changerooms.
Encounter Bay - big ground, but bloody windy all the time and what about the sun for spectators?
Strathalbyn - good ground, but no drainage.
Langhorne Creek - too far for everyone to travel for the showpiece of the league and cricket pitch is a worry.
Yankalilla - good oval, but the changerooms and showers??????
McLaren - Not bad ground, can be boggy in front of clubrooms and changerooms not up to scratch.
Myponga, Compass, Willunga ovals not up to standard.

Jelom,
We played our last home game on Saturday. Yes it is true that hockey gets played on most wknds that we are away. This could still put us in the race for a few extra finals. At the moment the only team training on the oval are the senior colts. The juniors are training on school ovals and reserves and the A and B's have resorted to training at the gym or at the front bar of the Goolwa Hotel. Sounds silly but we need it in good nick for the 2nd semi. The grounds keepers son works for floratine a major turf products distributor and my brother works at the Telstra Dome so we have a few experts on the case. A bit of sun and less use and it should come up a treat

surely the league will just play the gf on the best surface, didnt they use the high school changerooms at victor a few years back for the 2005 gf although i heard there not much better than the normal changerooms!
also jelom whats the odds for this week i want 100 on yank to beat victor!! \:D/

Great condition as usual apart from the cricket pitch square which is a bit muddy as one would expect.

I have won out of left field, you could contact us at the Shoe, best oval in the comp and great facility's. Also most in the SFL agree that the best place for atmosphere and a good oval is Port Noarlunga, give them a call.

By the looks of Pongy Oval (great shot) and that shot looks as if it was early
in the game it is lucky they are playing away for the next 2 weeks.
From that great shot
SHOULD THE UMPIRES BE BLOWING THE WHISTLE AND GIVING ELLIOTT SCHNEIDER A FREE KICK FOR BEING HELD WITHOUT THE BALL

Heard Pongy are training at Willunga High School. Saves the Coach a drive and he can mark some school work while he waits for the players to rock up

Grand Final at Mt Compass???? Not the best decision
The playing surface is up and down all over the place

BJ will be having nightmares after their loss to McLaren in the prelim a few
years back at that venue

jelom 19 A few people find you amusing. Please do not give up your day job
(if you have a real job) and get on the stand up comedian circuit you are not that funny.
If you can remember the 1956 flood, my dad reckons you must be Barry Clarke,s Dad
and more than likely you are getting around on a gopher and too much sitting on that is causing your hemeroids

Was at Mclaren oval last night for training and the oval is looking a treat, although we have two home games to finish off the season, so we'll see how it holds up after them  !! If Compass go through to make the Grandy, does anyone know if and where the Grand final would be played next? I think Mclarens would be a pretty good choice. Holds a good crowd with good viewing from right round the ground. Visitors changerooms are a bit small, but atleast they are a good room with good showers! In the end you only use the changerooms to get changed and listen to pre-game instructions and have a bit of a breather at half-time, there's plenty of room out back to have a decent warm-up, which other clubs do lack!

If Compass do manage to make the Grand Final (they won't) it will be held at Goolwa. As we all know it works on a rotation system for each final match, including the GF and for each final fixture there is a back-up ground listed. Someone could ask the committe for a copy of the document as it shows where the finals will be played for the next ten years and the back-up venue in case the host side makes the GF, would be an interesting post.

On a previous post a month ago someone questioned the interest in the senior colts competition. As the finals near it is getting more exciting with Mount Compass assured of a spot and could possibly finish top and 6 clubs falling over each other for a place in the finals. The big games this week are Creek v Saints, Strath v Bays and McLaren v Compass.
If McLaren, Saints and Bays lose they can say goodbye to their tilt, but expect the unexpected, it has been happening all year.
All of the 7 teams fighting for a spot could win the flag, while in the other grades McLaren will win the juniors, Willunga the reserves and A grade. Only one grade where it is not a forgone conclusion! Sad, but true.
