Yeah he did, and you'd have to question the decision by the coaching panel or coach to have brought him back through the 2's. Might have made the difference, but hey, as i stated before, i think Gaza thought it was already ticked in the Wins columb.

I knew it wouldn't be long before the players & committee start pointing the finger at a certain individual.
If you read a few posts of mine earlier regarding the Gaza F/C, it seems like nothings changed, always looking for someone else to blame for there failures. I must say Mead should take some responsibility for there supposed lack of fitness earlier in the year but surely by round 9 you would have caught up, its now round 16, is it that the players can't take a bit of criticism so they are showing a dislike for the coach?
Gaza F/C should have a real good look at what they recruited this year as far as pace is concerned " a lack of it ", alot of the club favourites are ageing & with that comes tired legs.
I must say its a learning curb for Mead, a big eye opener in the difference between where he's come from in terms of Leagues & the
professionalism required, to a League where some players don't give sh!t, don't want to train & learn more aspects of the game from someone thats played at the highest level & don't show the respect required to there coaches, with that i believe Mead is wasting his time with that bunch down their, nothing will change until they get mirrors inside there clubrooms so they can have a real good look at themselves & be honest with themselves & coach with what they see in it.

Good call NM, unfortunately Gaza have an over inflated opinion of their club as a whole. At some point in time the pendulum has to swing in favour of the credible coaches that have been there and someone from within the club needs to say "maybe it's us and the way we do things", these blokes can't all be wrong.

What do you mean by that Captain Cordial?? Are you suggesting he doesn't do enough to earn his money? He's a multi best & fairest winner and has 2 league medals in the cabinet..

No I don't mean that at all. My knowledge of Ben is that he spends very little of the money in the club, the envelope goes in the pocket, Ben goes out the door with envelope still stuck together at the top. Hates spending it is what I'm saying.

Ben's an absolute champion bloke. He gives everything he can to his clubs when he's playing there.
Anyone who would say anything negative about him doesn't know him at all.
By the way, he's 32, not 33.

I'm pretty certain Ben would put money over the bar.
If he wasn't a good clubman I doubt the quality clubs he has been at wouldn't have had him around as long as they have.
He also wouldn't have so many mates from those clubs still either.
Top bloke - and there are no arguments about that.

I think I know him well enough to make the comment I made. Maybe he's changed, but in my exoerience, not a lot went back over the bar. He didn't come cheap in those days either but was a reasonable investment.

I would think that as a football club being a reasonable investment is a reasonable thing.

Which club did you experience Ben at?

Yes he did, why wouldn't he.
Oh I don't know, maybe something to do with the fact he's played a fair part in their current predicament and something to do with a recommendation from the new steering committee that he be given the arse, that's all.

Had an interesting conversation with someone that should know about this, if Broadies can somehow stay in Div 1, their coach next year will definitely be Darryl Wintle

Some players in todays game at Amateur Level are all about themselves & how much they can take from the club. without giving back. ( over the bar )
I've seen it with my own eyes, at my own club. Bloody disgrace i think.

As for player payments shoe boy, that "can of worms" may get opened again!
Lets say 4 of the top 5 clubs in Gepps, Henley, Gaza & Salis Nth are known to be paying $300-$400 per game for their gun players.
I shouldn't let Goodies off the hook, you can't tell me Demasi, Webb, Wakelin, Bartel play for nothing.
A couple of those clubs do pay $500.

CC, where is it written that a paid player has to spend his money over the bar to be a valuable asset to a club, perhaps he's smart with his money or has a reason.

In my opinion, If a paid player is meeting the expectation on the field for what he is being paid, then there should be zero complaints about what he does with his money.....

It's like saying you work at a timberyard you should spend half your pay on timber so you're giving something back...

Different if they are under performing, then the club would be unhappy that every cent is walking out the door. In my experience of Ben he has been worth every cent and maybe more. Can't put a price on some of the things he does and is well liked always by his team mates.

Do clubs pay players purely for the on-field performance? I thought most clubs expected players to take a more wholistic approach to being involved at a club. Attending functions, trainings and behavioural standards make up part of what players are paid for and I know this is stipulated to players at our club when they sign up.
