Having said that, anyone who is offended by Sam's behaviour should simply not watch and anyone appearing on the show not expecting such a comment to be made is naive...

Can't believe people did not think he meant what he said. It was the biggest "back pedal" I have seen!!!

The man's got to get with the times.....and I don't think he will ever change the way he is.
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

I think it was reasonably sly, sure, smutty, sure it was wrong, but he said it AS A DOUBLE ENTENDRE.
Not as an out and out call that he wants to "come on her".
It was a bad double entendre, but i still laughed, Brayshaw over reacted.
By not acknowledging the comment, doesn't mean he condoned it, otherwise he condones EVERYTHING said on the show.
That's ridiculous.
Garry Lyon said he didn't take it that way, he acted professionally, James got on his high horse, bringing the show into further disrepute.
Sam had ground to backpeddle onto, and did so, Brayshaw drew his own conclusions.

Some people in the media have been saying that Sam could have only meant it in the "smutty" way, that he couldn't have possibly thought of the double entendre that quick.

People forget, that although he doesn't sometimes allude to it, Sam is a highly intelligent man and is paid $1million a year or whatever it is, because he is a skilled entertainer. I believe Sam was 100% aware of what he said though and certainly did mean it as the double entendre - maybe it was a little more low-brow than what was required.

90% of the people watching the show that night would not have picked up on the joke at all, if Brayshaw didn't mention it.

Sweet! I would have forgotten, had I not read this - cheers HoF.

I will be watching with interest to see how different it really is - apparently have a new set and of course no more Trev. I don't think it will continue much longer if they don't get it right from now.

Should be good.

Crawford and Billy to fill the role that Trevor had but without a bar. Will be interesting to see how it goes.

I went off the football show a few years ago it's always the same shit week in week out how many times can you show G Lyon getting taken off with a broken leg yes funny at first but man you can only take so much. Also the Gorilla thing with Dunstall week in week out, they need to come up with new ideas each week for **** sake.

Watched more of the first episode this year than I did for the whole of last year and actually enjoyed most it, but can certainaly understand why some people think its a waste of time. Find it interesting sometimes how many people make comments about it but say they hate the show and what they do on it.. but they obviously continue to watch...probably the reason it has been on the screens for 16 years.

Garry Lyon - Same as usual
James Brayshaw - Lacked a little
Sam Newman - Seemed to force the hatred to Shane when we all know they are mates
Shane Crawford - Tried WAY too hard to be funny
Billy Brownless - Didnt work bringing him on late

Overall 6/10

Fair call MW, the Sam vs Shane stuff will get a bit boring if they continue it.
