"What happens on the field stays on the field and if that means waiting another 7 or so weeks to get the person back (within the rules of the game) "

i cant believe you even said that..and eye for an eye eh..break out the horse and cart and take us back 200 years..that sort of dum thuggery and way of thinking is a small minority of the football world and is from a bygone era..and one no-one needs to bring back , especially clubs with juniors which i seriously hope the club you are with doesnt have..exactly how would you "get him back" within the rules? hes been king hit and had teeth punched thru his lip..any contact with the agrressors head in a payback game is not within the rules..or are you going to smother him with kisses at the bottom of a pack LOL

And we all look up to AFL footballers, i think the problem here is consistency (previous year/decades). What happens on the field stays on the field and if that means waiting another 7 or so weeks to get the person back (within the rules of the game) than so be it. 20 years ago this type of thing would of never been taken to the courts!

Although hitting someone from behind is a cowardly act!

But he should be able to get away with it because he's on a football field???
Realistically I think it comes down to the act itself and the damage done. If someone king hits a bloke and the guy is permanantly scarred or injured as in this case, then it should be in the hands of the police. If you ever have kids(so help me god!) Hills and you're 16 year old son is king hit by a 30 year old behind play and has his jaw broken and eye socket smashed requiring around $2k worth of surgery, is this all "kosher" with you because it happened on a footy field???

Yes he should have to pay medical bills but to do 4 weeks behind bars because of it is bullshit.
more happens at the front of the highway!!

No matter what, the guy should be made to pay for damages as well as an extra fine for assault. Two months jail sounds like its gone a bit to far though i think.
There have been a few cases like this and people have been fined big money for it due to the damage they caused.

So if you wanted to shoot someone, just do it on the footy field and then you're barley's.

there was an incident in an sanfl reserves game that a player hit another player and was sued. the player had a huge fine to pay.

  is that a gun down your shorts or are you just happy to see me?

If the hit behind play caused as much damage as stated then the tribunal penalty probably wasn't long enough. This is where suspension or expulsion of any type should come from and be dealt with - at League level

If I lost months of income due to not being able to work, I'd be looking at re-couping that civilly as well, but to be thrown in the klink for it is just ridiculous.

Whats become of our great game? You'll all be wearing skirts next...

a football oval is not protection from the laws of society hills..get with the 21st century man!!

by the guys own admission they had "history"..so he knew exactly what he was doing ..it wasnt a mistake..on the street he would be charged with assault and everything that comes with it..a white line around an oval is not protection from the law

How can a football tribunal only give you 6 or so weeks but the legal system can give you 4 weeks eating from a plastic spoon and sharing a room with some crazy nut who shot someone!
The bloke is gonna be more than scarred for life he is going to lose his rectal virginity!

Nothing happened to me, can't say the same for someone else we were with...
The bloke is obviously a repeat offender, so i'm sure if he continues to play the game he won't go around king hitting blokes!

FC I think the clink is a bit harsh, but if he hadn't had two priors then he would only be on a good behaviour bond. I don't think that not wanting to get your jaw broken equates to being a "skirt"

You read that all wrong Brock, I mean the rules in general potentially taking contact of any form out of the game in fear of getting sued.- hence my remark. Because lets face it, you can cop a broken jaw in an honest tackle as well.

I hate thuggery just as much as anyone.. but i still believe that the punishment for thuggery on field needs to be dealt with solely by a fair and just tribunal system, which is something most leagues unfortunately don't have.

blokes like this moron ruin our game.
as much as i think jail time is to far something has to happen about this.
the bloke oviously likes belting people so take up boxing.
i got nothing against a couple of blokes having a dust up on the field throwing a couple at each other, but when it is from behind its a load of sh!t.
and lets see how he likes it from behind for a couple of weeks.

probably shouldnt get jail time but i think for a 3rd inccident should have his registration terminated

This isn't bad from a member of a club that was all too eager to sign one of the "perpetrators" of the 2005 div4 GF bloodbath.
