Not sure i completely agree with you. To limit your search to players leaving league clubs or playing div 1 is leaving a lot of top quality players out....I do agree however with nurturing the local juniors are they are the real future.

Not sure how you will go getting players, coaches etc to sign for anything more than two years and i think most clubs would be relunctant to do that anyway.

It does seem a long term plan needs to be put in place though.....

Long term plan, boozehound to Virginia! Take a lot at their B grade if you get some spare time, you might understand what is wrong with the club then.

Yep! The B-grade at Virginia are a disgrace. They have no understanding of the spirit of Aussie Rules. No respect for opposition or umpires. Not the umpires always deserve respect but out right intimidation is not on. It reminds me of some overseas soccer games at times. The A grade is marginally better only because it is mixed with a few outsiders. The mental capacity of some of the Virginia locals is puzzling. When you see full grown men leaving the oval doing burn outs? I mean come on!!!

I'm jealous, I would do burn-outs if i could, but unfortunatley the old sigma just doesn't have the horses!

That's why when it's a wet day down at Ram park (Which is pretty much every week!) i can take the opportunity to get a little bit of sideways action as i make my way around the ground, nothing like the sight of a orange sigma revving it's flange out going about 10 kph sideways, hey instead i might take it a bit further down old pt Wakefield road and on to Bob Jane's drag strip* and give it a real workout.

* - Adelaide International Raceway, is owned by bob Jane and the moron doesn't want to spend any money on the track and bring it back up to national race standards so we can have real professional drag meets instead of street meets and burnout comps every other day! There is a whole world of drag racing that South Australia misses out on because of some peanut who sells too many tyres to care about the sport. His missus goes alright though!
Sorry people I only deal in facts!

I know it's good sometimes to have a week off but we all get byes anyway. This weekend could've been used during finals time to get rid of that stupid sunday final.

I think its good to have a bye for it. It encourages blokes to play in the zone canival. If a local team had four of there top players out of thier A grade side then its a clear disadvantage. Im assuming this suggestion is coming from a bloke who has never had anything to do with zone footy or whos local team has never been in the situation where they would lose their tops couple of players to the zone games. If we have a year like last year, where the top 3 were very even, it could prove the difference.

Dunno about other players in this league but Rimmer and Southern both got a berth this year and MH Wilson is skipper. Great work gents.

Looks like the NEFL situation this year is a good example of why an assoc should have a bye!

Thats something the club needs to be really strong on if they want to turn it around. we have done that at Eastern park this year trying to wipe out undiscipline players and it has worked to great effect.
Harsh but fair.....

I'll always welcome a bye. Good days to watch the Bays and have a few tinnies.
I don't even need a boat.

Oh I wondered why the Rams had been a bit off over the last 8 weeks. I heard of blaming players, coaches and burn outs but the program, come on 2g4u.

OK, What would be the reply if your club had the same run of bye's as the rams have had? I think u would then question the bye! and as sd points out we have plenty of problems without the run of bye's . The way things are at virginia you will be playing in a six team comp next year!

the best way to avoid having as many bye's is to play finals, the following year your under way the first round.

Otherwise, hey, it's a week off, go and watch the SANFL, stay home and download porn or take a trip anywhere. It's good to freshen up and re assess your team's goals.
