Derek has been a very handy pick up, started the year across half back then has moved into the midfield/wing. Had a couple of BOG's and played in the association team as a late call up.

What's his background Hazbeen? Where did he come from? Does he have a previous connection with Balak?

Family bought Royal Hotel in Balak over the summer, previously played for Langhorne Creek in GSFL.

Or is he??
The rumours could be correct. Let's just say, Picket enjoys hogging the rubdown table.

rumours of sacking greg phillips are just that! last years debacle did nothing but harm and if we continue to bring any players under A1 amateurs or league reserves standards the club will keep going backwards. We MUST as a club offer long term contracts to players of the standard required together with a 3-5 year plan(bringing through the right juniors )then the club might start to turn things around. The problem is that the committes over the last 5 or so years have no or very limited football knowlage. back to greg phillips he is nice a bloke all the players get on well with him, but he needs the support from ALL the locals to get the club going again.

I suggest you might want to check some parts of your statement with the top boys at Salisbury North, unless things have changed the big fella wasn't rated terribly highly as a coach. Good luck at getting players to commit for that long, if it happens in your club, there are plenty of metro clubs that will pay big bucks for the secret, I'll watch with interest your progression within the APFL. Good luck! :o :o

Why doesn't he have the support from all the locals? I would've thought a high profile coach like that would have the respect that would come at least with his playing record. If as you say, he is a nice enough bloke, what is the problem? Or maybe the percieved problem with some of the locals??

What is everyones opinion on the bye this week for the zone game. It seems to me to be a complete waste for possibly only 4 or 5 players from our league that will play in it. Not too sure but i wouldn't think too many people apart from the players families, would actually make the trip to Berri either. I know it's good sometimes to have a week off but we all get byes anyway. This weekend could've been used during finals time to get rid of that stupid sunday final.

Can you elaborate on what the problem with the "top boys from Salisbury North" was?

Not sure i completely agree with you. To limit your search to players leaving league clubs or playing div 1 is leaving a lot of top quality players out....I do agree however with nurturing the local juniors are they are the real future.

Not sure how you will go getting players, coaches etc to sign for anything more than two years and i think most clubs would be relunctant to do that anyway.

It does seem a long term plan needs to be put in place though.....

They did not rate him as a coach. Very disappointed with his lack of achievement during his term with them, considering they had a reasonable group of players

Long term plan, boozehound to Virginia! Take a lot at their B grade if you get some spare time, you might understand what is wrong with the club then.

They certainly have alot of fit blokes (I use the term loosely) running around out there, but I suppose they're having a crack. If not at the ball, at the opposition's head.
