[quote="Toughcall"]I'm not personally against anyone, including Popey, but the facts speak for themselves. If keeping Popey on for another two years could affect a new great committee coming in, then the decision may have undone a lot of work that has been going on behind the scenes and the possibility of a big signing that would have cleaned out the players on points now. If that's the case, what waste and how sad.

You seem to know alot about some behing the scenes work TC would you like to alaborate on it . Who are these new committee members and the new coach in waiting . If there is a good coach in waiting then popey would step aside if it was in the best interest of the club . PM with the details and we will talk .

Tips for this week -
Willunga by 80 points, althoug Yank will try hard.
Victor Harbor by 30 points, although i think the Saints will play with a bit of heart.
Compass by 20 points
Bays by 25 points
Creek by 50 points

Who may the big signing that would have cleaned out the players on points had been TC? By this do you mean a coach that would have sent all plyers worth points in 08 packing?

Points System

Postby Grape Ape » Fri Jun 27, 2008 2:34 pm

After all the hoo hah pre season I'm interested to know what people think of the points system. Half way through the season the issue seems to have disappeared.

Has it had any impact at all? Has any club not recruited a player because of the points system? Has any club not picked a player in the A's to avoid exceeding their allocated points?

GA bar the Strath mister meaner at the start of the season all clubs have been ticking all the right boxes in accordance to the points system.
What actually happened to Strath did they receive any penalty's for cheating?

Looks like the A grade top 5 could be close to set with just the Bays pushing Victor and Compass but still two games behind.
The B grade is shaping up to be a great run into the finals with Victor, Mclaren and Compass all equal in 5th spot and bays only one game ahead in 4th. Will Mclaren and possibly Bays "stack" the B grade?
The Senior colts is too close to even try make a call on, with Strath, Compass, Willunga and Bays equal on top Saints one game behind and Mclarens and Creek just a further one behind the saints! This comp will be interesting to watch over the next few weeks.
The Jnr colts is also a race for 5th spot with Creek and Compass tied for 5th at the moment and Saints only one game off with Strath one behind the Saints.
The league looks healthy with Willunga dominating the A & B grade to be the only un-defeated sides in the comp and should play finals football in all grades.

Just looking at the GSFL Website and its going to be a very interesting run home again in 08.

Straht to play Yank/Saints/Creeks/Pongy/Victor/Bays/Willunga
Victor to play Willunga/Creeks/McLaren/Bays/Strath/Yank/Compass
Compass to play Creeks/Pongy/Bays/Yank/Saints/McLaren/Victor
Bays to play McLaren/Yank/Compass/Victor/Willunga/Strath/Saints

Most would say Strath are set but if they lose to Creeks/Victor/Bays/Willunga they could find themselves in the pack well and trully.

Victor must beat the bays again along with beating everyone else they have previously.

Compass are look to be able to pinch the right wins with the right draw running home however must also hold off the Bays and Victor.

In all it wil more than likely come down to who drops the first must win game. The team with the biggest task is the Bays as they must beat Compass and Victor and would love to touch Strath up however they also have danger games all the way through in Yank at Yank. In saying this Victor also must be on the ball with games against Willunga, Creeks, Bays, Strath and Compass.

Can anyone fill us in as to how Marc Cox is going out there at Encounter Bay, is he settling in or on the move?

Weekly Whinge:

Why is it that in the senior colts' teams can only be awarded a 10 goal win? With the comp so close it looks certain to come down to percntage it would be pretty rough if you miss out after beating teams by 20+ goals and it comes down to the fact that your team only got awarded a 10 goal win. I would love to know all the REAL results and for that matter who are the leading goal kickers in the junior grades?

Just for the record the Saints SMASHED VH on the weekend 29-12 to 5-3. Good effort by our boys, their efforts should be rewarded by publishing the scores.

I couldn't agree more. As far as I know the reason for this was to minimise embarassment associated with getting beaten by a big score. Was there actually any evidence of this happening or was it just a move made by parents?? At the end of the match the score is there on the board for all to see, what's it gonna matter having it displayed in the paper as well??

I was speaking with a few Saints boys over the weekend and they were telling me that the next time they play McLarens they are going to smash em. Big call for a side with one win. I'd probably be a little bit more humble and just go about playing footy and let the result take care of itself. No point in sounding off too early.

Owen Love is a great player and I would also like to see him get a few votes on the night if bays can win a few more close ones he should pole a few more, Its always hard to pole a high amount of votes in loosing sides.

McLarens are not even on our agenda. We play pongy after the break so I think thats our number 1 concern at the moment.

i suspect this is a mclaren player causing a stir, why would any saints player be stupid enough to say something like this, highly doubt it. I mean they are close to the island but they are not that dumb.

What are clubs doing over the break, did every club have normal training last night and then train thursday aswel?
