Not a bad team for the Eags this week, think they match up really well against our side...

Many people are saying the Doggies by how much but I reckon it will be a typical Dogs v Eagles game, tough hard and aggressive footy. I think our side might just have a bit too much fire power for the Eag's defence and reckon our midfield will be hungry to avenge last weeks thrashing in the middle of the ground. Is anyone else suprised that Passador is back so soon from his hammy, do WWT fans think Ronnie is rushing him back a little bit earlier than expected because they feel this is such a crucial game in the context of their finals aspirations ? Will it come back to bite them on the bum and will Shwarze play in the 2's like some people are suggesting ? I hope he does because I really rate him and on his day he can be a match winner, especially if Pass is a little suspect with his hammy ???

How has young James Moss been going..its interesting he is just playing his first league game. Fellow crows rookie Jarred Patrenko has played a few now and is improving each week.

Does anyone have more info on Moss, how he plays, whats he like...is he AFL potential?

thanks

Thanks Big Phil - and Aerie.

Passadore usually gives us problems so it could be closer than people are saying if he is fit.

I hope the doggies come with their A game this week.

An interesting read Big Phil .
Not being as good with the written word as yourself .I will try and reply in a like minded way or well written style(a very hard thing for me to do  ) .
Mark Passadors injury when first reported online, or whispered around the ground. We all were told or told ourselves 4 to 6 weeks .So are Ron and the Boys playing mind games, or risking the great man with further injury .Only time will tell. But Mark did look out of sorts when handing out donuts last week.
Looking at the EAGLES team no way will it line up as selected .I know Trent out is a big blow but it opens the Door for Adam Grocke to return and stamp himself at CHF again.Plus are Ron and the boys playing a waiting game with the weather condtions. Will they go in really really Tall if its a fine day or drop Schwarze if its a wet day .Once again only time will tell .
Big Phil you saying the doggies by 4 goals I think you are being over kind to my beloved Eagles :( .The teams form against Norwood and Sturt would indicate a loss of around 100 points to your Doggies :( .
That is UNLESS THEY find the desire , the heart , the guts ,the balls to play good football again.
This game could be the Eagles last chance Rons Waterloo no idea if he is Wellington or Napoleon only time will tell .The Eagles natives are not happy 4 home losses this year will number 5 be this week .Or will Passador kicking the record goals lift the team .

One thing for sure only time will tell !!!

Well written yourself Mickj, you make a few interesting points in your little take on things...

First of all, Pass must have gone to Germany during the week and had 1000 injections of baby cow's blood (like Max Rooke from Geelong did) if he is fit and plays tomorrow. You said he looked pretty proppy on it last week handing out donuts and I saw him hobbling on it in Rundle Mall last Friday arvo so they are either playing ducks and drakes with selection or, like I mentioned, Ronnie is willing to risk him slightly underdone in a hope to break the shocking run of home losses in 08 and keep up the hope of getting back in the 5. Time will tell like you say...

I think that my tip in margin will be pretty accurate because although I feel we will be hungry to atone last weeks crap display against the Bays, I still think our side is only running at 50 - 60% efficiency in terms of their capabilities with skill level, hunger and of course player availabilty. If you look back to when we were pretty average against West a few months back, we came out the following week and absolutely SMASHED Port down at Alberton in our best display this year. A couple of weeks ago we were average again in the win over a determined South then after a bye came out and got taught a footy lesson by Mark Mickan's men. The key word is CONSISTANCY and even in that Port game we let Port kick 5 unanswered goals in the last term when we should have ran away with a 100+ point victory.

It has been written a few times in the press about how some of the Centrals players look too complacent with their spot in the side and as much as I had to admit it, this is spot on. IMO, too many players are playing within themselves based on their reputations from the past and this year this is clearly evident in some of the performances we have put together. Centrals sides of the past have taken pride in not having to rely on just 3 or 4 stars, they seem to be able to get the best out of AT LEAST 15 or 16 blokes on the day and results have come accordingly. This year, too many blokes look flat, dis-interested (big thing to say, I know, but at times it does look like their minds are elsewhere) and too many have just left the slack to be taken up by our 3 or 4 only consistant performers this year in Paul Thomas, James Gowans, Chad O'Sullivan and maybe throw in young Dan Havelberg.

I think the loss against te Bays was the kick up the butt a few blokes in our side need and judging on what Daniel Schell had to say on the 5RPH show last night, they have acknowledged the areas that need to be improved and hope to address them sooner rather than later. I certainly think that we will come good at the right time of year, come finals, but my earlier point of playing at 50% capability brings me to my next point. I don't think we will come out and get it all together tomorrow and SMASH the Eagles like some are saying. I think our return to form is going to be a gradual thing, especially as we start to see a few quality players come back into the side, Ian Callinan for one this week (if he plays ?) and Luke Cowan another. I feel like it will take another few weeks before we start pushing up toward 75 - 80% efficiency and with the quality of the side we have (when all fit) this should start to see us win more games consistantly as the finals approach.

So in saying all that, this is reason why I think we will just get over the line against WWT this weekend. Plus don't forget, the Eagles are coming off a thumping themselves so they will be pretty fired up and although they too have struggled for consistancy this year, they have got some pretty experienced players in their side as well as some impressive youngsters, a couple back from State U/18's duties. Look, of course, I'd be more than happy to be proved wrong and would love to see the Doggies win by over 10 goals but i just don't think our side has that same spark or polish from years gone by thus the reasoning behind my margin tip. Don't worry though, as we get C.Gowan, C.Slattery, I.Callinan and L.Cowan with a bit of game time under their belts in the coming weeks, we will certainly be "buffed" up and all shiny, ready to go come finals.

players look too complacent

That must be something both teams can claim at present .There is not a lot left in the cupboard at oval ave IMHO.And yes we have got one state player back ,and he will ad a lot down back .But the youth of the other players is still missing .
As I write this reply I get the feeling that the Eagles will go into the game very tall.To me either Geddes or Daniel will go back to the two's and perhaps this is a wake up call for Schwarze. And Schwarze and Trent did not appear to be able to cohabit the same Forward line. This will not be the case on Saturday.

I will be at the ground in my normal Eagle nest seat watching my team fight it out with the doggies .

And no one picked up my Waterloo comment .

I have my doubts about Passador playing. If he doesnt then Schwarze could play full forward.
Mickyj
I think you are wrong about Geddes being dropped....the club would look stupid if they dropped him after last week being given best player and the "One positive from the game was the effort of Brad Geddes".
The inclusion of Broadbent is good, he is a top round draft pick next year and wont be with the Eagles next year. Wright is named (I think for his first league game for Eagles) and will add strength and experience to the midfield, something we have been lacking. Klun will add strength too.
I think young Daniel has been ok the last few weeks and its not about who always gets dropped, its about match ups and stucture. Daniel is quite big and can take a tallish forward.
Fitzgerald had a poor day last week and I expect him to bounce back.
You might even find McGregor to full forward and McEntee to half back if Passador doesnt play.
I think Ken struggles with pace down back, and that was lacking last week. Our defence was killed by Perrie, Chambers and Herring and Coad last week, and some of this was from lack of midfield pressure. We need to tighten up and win more contested ball to have a chance this week.

When I wrote about Geddes Corona I was thinking he was in the best last week .I am not sure about who will play where this week. Ron does seem to play the guys in different spots after the team is selcted.

The Problem last week with Kenny Mac was he followed Perrie everywhere.IMHO he should have stayed at cHB and let perrie run into our Forward line .
But I was surprised kenny did not start at FF last week .
Wright could be the player needed in the mid field IMHO.

Hey Footy Fans,

For those who don't like to or haven't read today's paper, here's the Doggies reserves side this week to face the Eagles at Woodville tomorrow:

RESERVES:
Boyle, Brading, Cole, Duncan, Foldesdy, Hadden, Kelly, McGee, McGrath, McShane, Officer, O'Hara, Porter, Shaw, Spurr, Steinberner, Trevena, M.Westhoff, Whiley, White, Woods

That's not a bad looking team this week, however there are a few interesting omission, as well as a couple of handy additions though. From my memory, here's the INS and OUTS from last weeks side that dissapointingly went down to the Bays at Elizabeth.

INS: Foldesdy, McGee, Steinberner, Trevena, M.Westhoff, White, Cole
OUTS: L.Westhoff, Baldwin, Barmby, Cowan, Moss, Hudson, Sharpe

From what I can gather, there will be at least 7 changes which I know happens quite frequently in the reservres but it must be somewhat unsettling for coach Damian Hicks and the players alike. Great to see Nathan Steinberner back once more after struggling with soft tissue injuries after finally getting his shoulder right. I was speaking to the very friendly reserves player Ashley Duncan last week during the league game and he mentioned that Steiny is as keen as mustard to get back out playing again. I think he last played against Glenelg back in round 6 so he has missed a good 10 weeks of football.

Also good to see Matty Westhoff come back after stress fractures of the foot keeping the Power listed player out of action for about 6 weeks or so. Interestingly, his older brother Leigh, who was unlucky to be playing reserves last week but still got in the better players, is not named in this weeks reserves side. I assume Leigh must be injured but with the club not including him in the injured players list that gets published in Thursday's Advertiser, maybe he is unavailable due to a Uni exam. Speaking of uni exams, Nick White and Dan McGee come back into the side after not being able to play last week because of that very reason.

Not sure with the other OUTS from the side with Baldwin, Barmby and Hudson possibly missing due to injury as well or university commitments like mentioned above. With the recent departure from the club of a few players because of their percieved lack of opportunity, whenever you see players missing from the side that are usually regulars, naturally, you think this could be a reason for their omission. All the best to Steiny and Matty Westhoff in their comebacks though, hope they play well and both ush for league selection down the track.

Great to see Nathan Trevena get a run in the magoos. Great kid who has had his share of injuries since under 14's, has talent to burn and should hold his own* at this level.

Yeah, thanks for that Smac...

I knew that he was an Under 19's player but didn't know too much about the lad to write anything on his reserves selection. Good luck to Nathan. Any relation to Darren ?

Cheers mate, like I said, good luck to young Nathan, good to see the young lads performing in the junior grades, get their opportunity at reserves level. I hope the selectors are keeping a close eye on Smithfield product Damien Hynes. He is an impressive young footballer and after seeing him kick 4 goals and set up a couple more in the State U/18's v State U/20's clash a few weeks ago, I hoe he gets an opportunity higher up if he keeps in good form with the Under 19's side.

GO U DOGGIES...

Thankyou Mighty Eagles for the good news...

Thank god we don't have Tony Dey, Chris Carey or that joke of an umpire Colin Rowston for this weeks game, I don't think I could handle any of those 3 officiating in another Doggies game for a second consecutive week. Pleased to see Tim Pfieffer officiating in this game, IMO, I think that along with fellow experienced whistle blower Dick Williams, Police Procecuter Mr Pfieffer is as good, consistant and fair umpire the SANFL has.
