Interesting comment in the footy budget from the riddler roast (page 20):

"Sure most of the clubs are not highly paid (unless you play for a certain Div 6 club)..."

I think he meant players instead of clubs, but I wonder which club he was referring to??

Hope Valley vs West Croydon - Demons looking to inflict as much damage on the scoreboard as is possible, bit of payback for round 2 and to make up for last weeks narrow loss. 66 points.
Brahma Lodge vs Colonel Light Gardens - Lions to continue on their merry way with another percentage booster. 77 points.
Houghton Districts vs Trinity OS - The lads are livid with last week's performance and will dig deep in another nailbiter.
Westminster OS vs Glenunga - Got told yesterday from young Wicksy that he'd spoken to ex-Sturt player Mark Conway and that the big ruckman had just signed with WOS. And whaddya know, he's listed for this weekend's game. Good work Wicksy. WOS by 88 points.
Lockleys vs Hectorville - Hounds too strong and tall or will the zippy Demons run circles around them. One point in at the final siren.

Great pick-up for WOS, i wonder what type of physical condition he's in though- has he been playing footy the last 3-4 yrs since he left Sturt??

He'd be mid 30's. Would probably win most taps, but be beaten for fitness and pace around the ground.

So maybe the question should've been who isn't paying their players - sounds like it would be a shorter list.

Maybe the question should be "who gives a rats?" Every club does whether they admit or not, this has been happening since Jesus Christ played full back for Jeruselum! Although he must have asked for a clearance cause he was crucified!!

Previous years gone, I think you'd find most clubs in Div 6/7 wouldn't pay players. Times are changing. There are many avenues to recruiting, payments being just one of them and it works well to fill positional gaps in the playing group. Probably something for us to consider in the future if it is at all viable, although we have recruited well in the past (2005/2006) without such a method.

I always wonder why the issue/whinge about clubs who pay players gets brought up. As previously stated - times are changing, and if clubs want to be successful, they need to do what they can. It shouldn't matter to anyone else. If a club is in a financial position to pay players, then good luck to them. People seem to get stuck into/mock other clubs for paying their players, or using it as an excuse as why they get beaten. It may be a reason, but is no use complaining about it, as the clubs are not doing anything illegal, extreme, or unheard of.../rant
I'm proud of you fellas. You all kept your head on a swivel, and that's what you gotta do when you find yourself in a vicious cock fight!
