We might have to combine Q, U, X, Y and Z - there are 89 names to choose from in that lot!

There are 79 V's, so that's enough for a half decent side.

There are 36 I's but I think we can find a side from that.

What I might do is seperate the Mc/Mac from the Ms? So have one for the Mac attack and the rest of the Ms in another?

If you can get a whole team of Mc/Macs that would be interesting to see.

I've deleted your other post that was duplicated. I don't know if this is premature, but I can't wait, so we'll move on to C, and anyone can discuss any other letter already featured.

There's 255 Mc/Macs, though this is excluding the surnames Mack, Mackereth, Mackie, Macklin, Macri and Maczowiak.

Your 'B' team isa strong team, AH, with a Magarey Medallist (Backwell) not getting a guernsey on the interchange :)

Further thoughts on the 'B' team.

Jack Broadstock would have to be in the first dozen picked.

And finally, I hope, another MM, Ron Benton?

I had Broadstock, Backwell and Benton all in the mix but there were only 22 players I could choose. I'm a little harsh on current players because the standard of SANFL is not as good as it was pre-Crows, and from what I've read of Broadstock he tended to turn it on when he wanted to and played too many average games, probably because he bet against his team. Also, Benton didn't achieve as much with his career that the other players did.

I agree that Benton would struggle to make this team, but I hear that Broadstock has had a bet on this team, so a bloke who played in a VFL premiership and played for SA would have to make it.

According to West's website, Jack Dyer said that Broadstock was the most talented footballer he had ever seen.

I think it's a strong team and you've done a great job, but Broadstock would walk it in from what I've heard and read.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. IMHO, Phil Carman was the most talented player I've seen, but if I did my team for best SANFL players I've seen I couldn't include him because he didn't achieve what his talented suggested he may, nor did he achieve what so many others did.

I'm basing my judgement from stories of older players who played with or against him. They said he certainly was an immensely gifted player, but far too inconsistent, otherwise he would have won a magarey medal. There was always this underlying feeling that Broadstock played the game for mainly the wrong reasons.

Yes, it's all a matter of opinion of course.

I've spoken to several old West Adelaide footballers who say he was the best player they had ever seen. This was an opinion shared by Jack Dyer, who saw all the best players of his era.

West Adelaide's website has him as one of only a few 'legends' on the site.

I think all that would put him in front of one or two on the interchange bench at the very least.

Pretty interesting to see 2 footballers mentioned as the most skillful in the SANFL, and not one of them D Jarman ;)
