When?.............finals time.

Haha, if we need me to play come finals time, then we are in huge strife !!!

I could make an appearance in the C's, one of the triple headers perhaps.

don't you have to play 3 games in a year for the club to count it as 'playing' that year?

Pups has also played every year since 1997 - he hasnt played this year though.

does that mean you can play 1 game a year and it counts towards life membership as well.....................assuming you need 100 games and 10 years service to qualify.

Spoke to Rolla last night at length. He was devastated! He told me both witnesses the pultney player described the alleged incident occurring in 3 different positions of the field. Pultney player could not identify the player who allegedly hit him.

He was told that if he pleaded not guilty there would be a formal inquest at north haven and the club could be fined heftily. Or they wanted a north haven player had to go to the tribunal and own up to the alleged incident.

They did not for 1 second believe that the broken jaw could have happened in any other way!!!

Rolla said that he would not have the club's name be dragged through mud and if a scape goat was required so a decision was made, he would plead Guilty. He told them that he at no point recalled being involved in the incident and that he had never been reported in the decade that he had played in the SAAFL.

surely having a clean record like that should amount to some sort of reduced sentence
whether it be suspended???

A shocking state of affairs. I'm sure if I was struck behind play the amateur league would go to extreme lengths to find out who hit me. Oh wait I play in the western suburbs my skull is not as valuable.

It would take 100 years to get to 100 games then !

For the record, we dont have anything stipulated as far as player life members go. I know you need 10 years service as an official - i dont intend to be coaching in 7 years time !

ouzo that's an absolute load of rubbish. You guys whingeing about the league loving their college teams is crap too. We had one of our best players reported for striking a few years ago and the club made a very big effort to get him off because he was important to our chances...he got 4 weeks if memory serves me correctly. The guy he was charged with striking didn't suffer any injuries or any other lasting effects...but you're right, western suburbs skulls aren't as valuable

From What I heard, it wouldn't of mattered what he pleaded. North Haven were gonna go for something. Probably the lesser of two evils.

If any club makes a report (or complaint) to the league, then the league must investigate it properly and take each incident seriously. I don't know much about the incident in question but think about it this way: If you were walking down the street and someone broke your jaw, would you be within your rights to make a police report? And then do you think the cops would call on any witnesses they can get? Of course they would! And likewise the tribunal should take into account any testimony they can get.

I'm not making any comment on the ban except to say that in reality the tribunal doesn't have much choice but to hand down strict pentalties, this is dictated by the nature of the competition, likewise for appeals (although I'm an advocate for allowing appeals to the longer bans, especially since they're rarer than your run of the mill two or three week striking ban).

Having said all of that, I agree entirely that the tribunal can be pretty inconsistent with their decisions, but no-one's perfect right?

That being said if this happened on the street, If the three statements all had variations to them, and the victum could'nt identify the attacker, and the suspect had no knowledge of the incident, How long do you reckon a court would deliberate over that before it was thrown out, if it even made the courts, 5 maybe 10 seconds.

Claiming you have no knowledge of an incident is not a valid defense though. If it was, everyone would use it.

I do agree with Mr Moody though, the inconsistency of the tribunal can be very frustrating for clubs and players.

If you have no knowledge of the incident, you have no knowledge of the incident. What more can he say. It goes back to the point it was their word against his, and the Ametuer league chose to believe Pultney with no concrete evidence to back it up and slugged a guy with 8 games. I dont understand how people can view this as fair result.

I'm not saying that I agree with the penalty, but think about the message it sends. And then think about the message a lenient penalty would send. I know which is going to be better for the league as a whole in the long run. Due to the nature of the competition the tribunal is compelled to hand out strict penalties; there's not a lot that can be done about that short of charging exorbitant fees to clubs (who would pass them along in the form of subs) to fund some sort of upgraded system (video recordings of every game for instance)...but that wouldn't be viable would it?! And it sure as hell wouldn't be the best thing for the league.

I somewhat agree with Felch when he said that the North Haven bloke wouldn't have pleaded guilty if he didn't do it. Obviously I don't know all the facts, but it's not uncommon for someone to 'fess up to something and then turn around and spill something entirely different to try to save face (especially amongst their family/friends etc - who they have to see everyday).
