I've pledged. Use Firefox anyway and have it set to download updates automatically so hoping I won't have to spend a day trying to get through to the Mozilla site. You should take bets on the site crashing :?

Gee Firefox is popular in Poland

I have just dumped firefox and gone back to internet explorer (I gave it a 6 month trial as my default browser).

I know that makes me a heathen in some parts but IE works perfectly well for what I need and Firefox didn't.

But an attempt at a world record sounds like fun, I might just download on the day to join in!

I'll do it. I use Opera as my main browser, but I keep Firefox for some sites rather than resort to the absolute evil of IE.

I will more than likely do it, not sure if my Firefox will automatically update or not.. but someone sent an email at work suggesting that there is no actual record in the Guinness Book for this type of thing! Not sure if that's true or not... maybe Mozilla are trying to create their own.

For some reason I still use it by default but I'm with you smac - I find Firefox does not work with lots of sites in the way it handles images and multimedia in particular. Firefox is very overrated and buggy IMHO and don't really get why anyone would think the latest IE is 'evil'?

Purely a speed issue mate, and the bug with the images/multimedia has only been happening for me in the last couple of months.
I use IE for sites I know that Firefox is buggy with and when I continue to use IE by accident I soon remember to switch back to Firefox as everything's so much slower (and I have ADSL2).

Hopefully the new version will get rid of that issue making IE redundant again. :D

I've been using Firefox 3 (betas/release candidates) for a couple of months or so now.

Haven't really looked into any new features, I was more concerned with speed and also memory leak issues.
I've had problems with embedded video crashing both Firefox 2 and 3, which is related to the Macromedia Flash video plugin (always seems to happen on the http://www.break.com site, ironically).

Apart from that, seems good -they've definitely improved the memory issues.

The "evil" bit is a joke, referring to techie sites referring to Microsoft in general in similar terms. "Evil Empire" has been borrowed.

I thought most here would be aware of that, and of the assertions on those sites that IE even IE7 is still a very insecure browser, vulnerable to spyware incursions. Opera tends to be the least vulnerable browser and Firefox a little more at risk. The problem is that many websites use proprietary scripting which is Microsoft and IE orientated, and browsers need to emulate IE more closely to work with those sites. In that case it is the site that is buggy, not the browser.

Of course both sides of this debate accuse the other of lying or distorting the facts - it is a form of politics I guess!

So since it doesn't work in 2.0.0.14 but does in RC3 (and does in IE7), does that confirm it's the browser's fault rather than the site?

No. It could easily be the site being coded to use something non-standard that Microsoft has created for IE.
Fortunately I think more sites are now sticking to offical standards and that is what Firefox is built to stick to.
If it works in FF 3.0 RC3, then it may now handle something that is proprietry to MS.

Hate to say this but I use 2.0.0.14 and that web site loads fine for me :?

I did the download and installation and all is well...seems slightly quicker to me, all my sites load up just fine and the sports betting site loaded instantly for me.

I'm happy with it so far. :D
Ps ...for those who don't know, once you have downloaded firefox 3 and do the set up, it automatically replaces the older version.
