not knowing much about drafts, trading etc. I was bemused when up in QLD recently about players signing on for other clubs during the year.

Im guessing this has probably gone on for a while now, but if you had a player who had signed up a big deal for another club, you could be concerned that he wouldnt put in 100% as he may try to save his body for the big $$$$$$ the following years.....

correct MT player movements happens right up to june 30.
it happens in coaching as well. for instance last night wayne bennett (BRONCOS COACH) will be coaching the DRAGONS next year, the team he coached against last night
the other thing most people might not know is that some of these teams are paying a % of players wages in their salary cap even though they have left the club for another team.

here is a list of most of them: note that with players the 1st section they have signed with another team BUT are playing with their old team now for the season and the 2nd section is the mid season changes for next year after the clubs counted how much money they had left from their salary cap

Coaching Changes for 2009 Season

Wayne Bennett - Broncos to Dragons
Neil Henry - Raiders to Cowboys
David Furner - Appointed as 2009 Raiders Coach
Ivan Henjak - Appointed as 2009 Broncos Coach
Steve Folkes - Bulldogs to retirement
Kevin Moore - Appointed as 2009 Bulldogs Coach
Jim Dymock - Sharks U20s coach to Bulldogs NRL assistant coach
Nathan Brown - Dragons to yet to be known
Graham Murray - Resigned as Cowboys Coach after Round 10, 2008.
Ian Millward- Appointed as Cowboys caretaker coach after Round 10, 2008

Player trades for the 2009 Season players will play twice against their new club this year

Willie Tonga - Bulldogs to Cowboys
Israel Folau - Storm to Broncos
William Zillman - Raiders to Titans
Anthony Tupou - Roosters to Sharks
Stuart Flanagan - Tigers to Raiders
Tony Puletua - Panthers to St Helens (ESL)

Chris Bailey - Knights to Manly
Ben Hannant - Broncos to Bulldogs
Tony Williams- Eels to Manly
Michael Crocker - Storm to Hull (ESL)
Denan Kemp - Broncos to Warriors
Michael Ennis - Broncos to Bulldogs
Trent Barrett- Wigan (ESL) to Sharks

2008 Mid season transfers

Danny Nutley - Roosters to Sharks
Terence Seu Seu - Knights to Sharks via Southern Sydney (Jim Bean)
Brett Anderson - Northern Pride (QLD Cup) to Storm
Tim Smith - released from Eels
Sean Rudder - rugby union to Newtown (NSW Cup)
Wendell Sailor - NSW Waratahs to Dragons via a drugs ban and Shellharbour
David Vaealiki - Manly to France (rugby union)
Michael Dobson - Raiders to Hull KR (ESL)
Matt Petersen - Titans to Wakefield (ESL)
Joe Williams - Panthers to Bulldogs
Richie Williams - Released from Panthers

Nick Youngquest - Tigers to Bulldogs

Player Retirees at season's end

Lance Thompson - Sharks (effective after Round 6)
Matt Geyer - Storm

years gone by the older players would sneak off to the UK and FRANCE to top up their superannuation packets in their final years. however now young average players have started a player drain in the NRL and are offered 3 times or more what their getting now to go.
