I think the best way to do it is for each of the head coaches to sit down with there players and put forward the names of about 8-10 players who want to play and are fit to play and then the Association selection committee narrow that down to 35-40 players to come out to train and then pick the best 22. Some players don't want to play, others jump at the opportunity. Thoughts???

seems like a logical idea :D which is possibly why the RMFL dont do it that way

there should at least be some consultation with players before the squad is selected. it would be fine if only 3 or 4 people pulled out with legitimate reasons. but there is no point putting 20 players out by having to get a Dr's cert who have no wish to play the game.

Could probably add Ben Hansen at Tailem although he could still be a year or 2 away from rep footy, and Eyre from Imps as well. Quite a few young guys at the Roos too.

Rep footy is great for most blokes, reguardless of age. Really like the idea of giving clubs the responsability. Then you would only get the ones who wanted to play in the squad. After all the idea behind rep footy is to see the best the league has to offer, not the best who are under a certain age.

Not to say your idea is not a good one FIL, because it is also a good alternative. It really is strange that some of the local blokes just dont seem to embrace it like they used to. Remember when it was a privalige not a chore!! We need to get that mentality back, & i think, as you stated FIL, a round robin carnival over a long weekend may just intice some

Sure right Trev usually loves these games BUT he was injured in association game last year and missed the next month of club footy. From memory he broke a bone early in the game and played on for a b.o.g. performance......There is only one thing Trev loves more than footy and that is cash robbo!!!

Ewer and Jags were both unavailable and Schmidt was "ommitted" probably because of his age...as he said "...Baylis took up two of the over 25 spots because of his age so there were only 3 spots left!!!.."

So "unavailable"...i wonder if this will have implications for those 2 players and others who have made themselves "unavailable"...ie will they be brought before the tribunal if they don't have a Dr's Certificate??

Are any of the Tailem boys playing P32? Hogarth or Bell..

Both players should be fine. They did state though that two players will be suspended though, so they do take it very serious.
