Unique Christian Names

Postby CK » Tue Jun 03, 2008 6:56 pm

Spelly, this is probably one you already have a file on, ready to go, but out of interest - which players to have played SANFL have been the ONLY example of someone with their christian name in the league?

Was thinking of the likes of Ugo Colosante, Yves Siebenaler and Pepe Illiano (spelling?)with this one.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...

He's not the only Aldo - there has also been Aldo Baraglia (South), Aldo Floreani (Torrens) and Aldo Russian (West).

Wilf Huddleston from Port Adelaide and Central District. How many players named Wilf?

If we were talking VFL, Hawthorn had a player with a sensational name in the late 1960s ... Rochford Devenish-Meares. That would take some beating :)

Jordan Wood is listed but Jordan Russell also played League for West.
Couple of other queries spelly:
Grantley Fielke?
Marc Dragicevic?

And I thought Tankosic's name was Dragan. I can remember seeing it spelt Dragan and Dragon in budgets.
p.s. I am in awe of your data base.

I've seen it spelt Drajan and Dragan, either way he is the only one.

There has been for Marc: Marc Bullen (Port), Marc Cox (Norwood) and Marc Marshall (North and West). Grantley could also be Grant on my list, all up there are 19 Grant and 3 Grantley.

This list I have on Excel appears in the List of Players thread on here. :)

Sonny Morey Central

I played footy at school with Silvano. He combined above average skills with tremendous leg speed and would have been a top player except he was stricken with injury early in his career and never played again. He became Sturt's league runner because he could still run in a straight line but couldn't twist and turn. He played in the 1976 Preliminary Final for Sturt but didn't make the Grand Final team ... and Sturt never gave him a ticket to the GF. Thought that was a bit rough.

Sonny Morey, what a great player. Did okay on the wing but when shifted to the back pocket became a sensational player. The funny thing about Sonny is he never minded people having at a go at him for being aboriginal, but if anyone dared call him a Pom, he wasn't impressed :)
