A much MALigned cricketer at Test level

And most importantly heeeeeeeeeeeeeeez baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack

DAY 1 2ND TEST WI V AU

AU 3/259
KAT 113*
398 MINS
241 BALLS
9 FOURS

After failing in the First test the KAT has answered his most ardent and fickle critics by making
and emphatic , studious, typically gutsy performance to score a ton.
Made 1506 runs at 94-13 last Pura Cup season, which is an Australian record.
Was made to open the first test with little match practice and failed
The selectors bravely and rightly stuck with the domestic run machine and he has deleivered

The KAT started his career for WA
Was high in the reckoning for a 5000 runs + career until stuck down with Glandular Fever
Could not break into the talented Australian team so did the other logical thing
HE PLAYED FOR NSW , VERY SMART MOVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is also an underrated bowler who is underused

I will highlight 2 of his best

1506 RUNS AT 94-13 INCLUDING 1 TRIPLE TON LAST P/CUP SEASON

4TH TEST AU V IN 2003/2004 SCG[Simon Cricket Ground]

IN 7/705 DEC
AU 474
KAT 125
IN 2/211 DEC

IN LEAD BY 442
AU NEED TO SURVIVE THE LAST DAY
3/170 STEVE WAUGH comes in and usually a disMAL failure when batting in 4th innings ...
4/196 KAT COMES IN

This will be etched on Steve Waughs memory
It was his last test match
and we needed a very rare gem to draw this
In comes Simon Mathew KATich and with his steadying influence inspires Waugh to an epic last dig
WAUGH 80
KAT 77*

DRAWN GAME AU 6/357
KAT makes 202 for once out in this test and saves the Aussies

THE CRITICS
____________

You know who you are
REB/MAL presidents of the KAT cheer club have defended this great man
To the man who calls him HACKITCH , well the selectors invested in the KAT and what can I say but
KATCHINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

After all only 2 men in this current team have made 100s in tests in the WI [KAT/PUNTA]

Well done to the selectors who were in a KATCH22 situation and selected him

Apart from the selectors a special thanks to the William Dampier and James Cook who can take credit

THE LAST WORD

MATTHEW $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ HAYDEN IS KNOWN AS MATT THE BAT
SIMON =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> KATICH WILL BE KNOWN AS KAT THE BAT

PS
Get the champers and chocolates [kit KATs] out heeezzzzz baaaaaack

Takes more then one good test knock, to be 'back"

I hope he goes well, as anyone who wears the Baggy deserves a chance,
but until he gets his average up to the high 40's, will always have those
question marks hanging over his head....

Hopefully he can do it...

I think quite significantly its put a bit of pressure on Jacques to hold his spot. Despite a great start to his Test career, his form of late has been reasonably ordinary.
