BAYS STORM TO TOP OF TABLE

Postby therisingblues » Sat May 24, 2008 1:05 am

First time since Round 3 1996 according to Spelly's stats.
Grant J posted this premiership table on the match thread. I have borrowed it for use here because I like all the colours he has used:
Image

The main point though is that the Bays are top, and stormed there after mutilating the side that dumped last years' grand finalist last round.
What a huge turn around from just two years ago when Mickan took over. Finals for the first time in eons last year, and now top of the table for the first time since the mid 90's!
The results being produced by Glenelg this year are those of a genuine flag contender. Are they improving with every game? Will they just keep getting better? They have beaten the two sides closest to them on the premiership table, and their disposal of Norwood tonight seems flawless going by many of the reports, perhaps it is a fair question to ask what is the Bays best ever win/loss record over a season, and will they eclipse that this year?
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

No, it is 22 wins and 1 loss in 1973 (includes finals). As a percentage it can't be beaten.

Bays fans should enjoy where they're at, within 2 or 3 short years they've put togehter a game plan and a team that has a real shot at taking the whole thing out, it'd be ironic if they could do in 2 years would North haven't managed in 4 or 5 years with more resources and I wish them all the best despite having a coach who is pretty low key.
Its all about beating Central and at this stage Glenelg look like they're a real shot and I wish them the best.

as a matter of interest, spelly, what was our % like at the end of 73 minor round, and what about sturt sturts in 78, both around 60% i reckon. the memories of 73 will never diminish for me, in particular the game at the bay v nafc 33-20 to 8-10 in what was dubbed the game of the year. 160 point margin was probably a better performance than the record v central in 75, purely for the fact that north were to contest the decider that year.

Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Seriously I won't start think the unthinkable until we beat Centrals at Centrals and even then it wont mean much because it will only be June or August not the most important time of the year.

Centrals still the benchmark for mine.

I can tell you now you're more chance than North were last year and we came 2nd.
Good luck to the Bays.

Long way to go in the season. Centrals, Sturt, North, Eagles and Bays - all on their day can produce good enough footy to beat any other side.

I'm keen to see how we go against each of those sides next time around. Dogs at Lizbef will be a massive ask.

Like many others, it is hard to look beyond the Dogs. They own this league and have done for the past decade, with the exception of a few GF hiccups.

Bays just need to keep going as they are, manage injuries well, and keep plenty in the tank to get enough wins to qualify for the finals, and then try and get themselves up amongst the double chances.

Keeping a firm lid on things, as a few injuries to key personnel could put us right back with the pack.
Is 2009 the year of the Tiger?
