Katich out for 12 after being luckily not caught with his 1st delivery.

This guy is not test standard, whilst he made plenty of runs last season, it is well known there is a BIG gap between shield cricket and test cricket and it is PROVEN that Katich and Hodge can't take the step up.

The West Indies attack is crap at best on a fast postage stamp..... lets see how they go for the rest of the match.

Great reply REB........You yourself have said that Hodge isn't up to test standard so I can only assume your trying to defend the blue bagger Katich........who has CLEARLY failed as a test player.

Depends what you define Test standard as. Both players would be picked for any other Test playing country without a doubt. Just because there happen to have been better players available for Australia during their time doesn't mean they are not up to Test standard. Similarly Shane Watson would make runs at Test level but he is not and unlikely to ever be in the top 6 batsmen in the country. Any other country he would be though.

4/301 at stumps good start. Ponting looked in 05 06 form again (i cant believe people on here thaught he should retire TOOLS) remember he got a hundred at adelaide oval as well so thats two in a row
as for hodgey he looked very in control.
i would exspect him to go on to a big 100 tonight. 100 then dropped.

Agree joker. Dumb comment.

Ricky is obviously struggling, the more and more he plays, the worse a reputation he is going to get.........

He should go out whilst he still has a good average and is still making a few runs.....

As i and others said HOF, dumb comment

I agree that they might've played more tests for a different nation Rod but that still doesn't mean that they would've succeeded.

They have both faced better bowling in first class cricket in Australian than they would've playing against most Test countries.

Lol  At least you can admit your mistake. What a great knock from Ponting. At his brilliant best. Second hundred in as many innings in real cricket for him.

Agree entirely- some of the crap served up 1st day was astonishing- edwards the obvious exception who bowled well- particularly in his 2nd spell where he didnt get a wicket. Sammy would not play shield cricket IMO- Powell would at his best but not how he bowled last night. The offie is ok at best. Mitch Johnson would be licking his lips- dizzy 201* here we come

I've got no time for knockers unless they come in a D Cup smithy. On the one hand you are saying there is a massive gap between test cricket and Shield cricket (the smallest gap between any domestic competition in the world and test cricket I would have thought) on the one hand and then you go on about how crap the Windies are.

I don't rate Hodge that is true but to have a crack at Hodge and Katich on the basis of their first real knock in overseas conditions IN MONTHS is clearly bogus. If the gap is so huge, WTF were you expecting? **** sake, my reply was generous.

Don't write off Hodge yet, he will still be out there on 53* tomorrow morning....

Katich has made plenty of runs domestically over the last 12 months and deserves to be in the team. Having said that, he will have to make runs in the 2nd dig though, because otherwise I can see this Test being a blip on the radar of wilderness for him if he doesn't.

I was having a crack at there selection, not on how they good or bad they perform in this series.
History has shown that these 2 players will not succeed at test level and they are on the wrong side of 30 so I would've preferred a younger player to come in instead.

That's very funny
