I agree kitm IB has lots of U17s not getting a game and the experience should help. But as Mopup said I hope the new teams have worked out they need full teams in mid season the youngsters need a game. This is not C Grade of the early 90's!
It is about developing a club atmosphere and despite hostile reactions from uninformed small minded individuals this can lead to an expansion of AFL in the Hills.

The numbers of really young kids in AUSKICK is huge in some areas, and are things each club needs to work on.

Also I do not read on the feedback on this forum this year about reports of bad umpiring (apart from me) we would have had a lot in the past.

I think we have been fortunate with M. Taylor taking up the HFL cause![/quote]

Mick Taylor is the best thing for hills football in a long time. Has recruited ex footballers to the ranks who generally make better umpires. Stood out on saturday when you compared Dennis Raymond to Trevor Morrison. Dennis might be new to umpiring but he certainly made Trevor look very poor indeed.

Big red muff - Brad Smith was excellent in both senior colts and in his debut A Grade game. Looked fit and about 10 kilo lighter. Good to see some blokes umpiring who can keep up with the game ( not just umpiring from centre square ) .
It does make you feel more confident knowing the umpire has played footy. They seem to relate to what is going thru footballers minds and more understanding of when some players get a little frustrated.
Also i think the players are more understanding of the umpire if he makes what is seen to be a mistake and less back chat given to a bloke that was playing in the comp. in recent years.
Massive positive for our league!

I agree completely the umpiring standard has improved with the addition of Dennis Raymond and Brad Smith.
But old players dont always make good umpires according to a few Hahndorf players who were umpired by Butch Marston on sat, cant repeat what they said but lets just say Butch got a little excited about there reunion later on and made sure the B's got over the line, one player said it was the worst display he has seen in 16 years of senior footy.
Solution; dont let league umpires do there old clubs!!

Tex, being second to the ball and going for the player will cost you a free kick everytime, no matter who the umpire is. Maggies didn't come out switched on. Very poor display from some of their senior players IMO, the umpiring wasn't a problem they were reasonably consistent all day , just the roos wanted to win a lot more.

Jailbird, i watched that match and yes the Mounts were very good on the day after copping a hiding 7 days earlier, but Butch (roo boy) Marsten should be ashamed of himself!! I agree Hahndorf were pathetic though!!

Devils absolutely thumped barker in the A's yesterday. all the people who wrote the devs off for 3 in a row would be second guessing themselves now. big flash gordon adds the forward power we lacked early in the yr kicking 11 goals straight...

super b's also run past the roos without any trouble.. starting to play like a team again... great win. wouldnt have liked to be on the end of the barage 'bots' houlihan gave his team after the game..... ouch!
