goodwood v colonel light gardens @ goodwood u/9's

Postby bayman » Sun Apr 27, 2008 12:12 pm

little bayman wants me to put up the scores so firstly last week clg played phos at home & lost 7.5.47 to nil, the endeavour of both teams in that game was great but phos was a lot more polished in their skill level

today 27/4/08

goodwood 1.1.7 4.2.26 5.2.32 5.2.32

colonel l.g. 1.1.7 1.1.7 2.1.13 4.4.28

what an enthrawlling game this was, it was just a great contest & as you can see by the scores it was close, i personally was bemused by the different rules to the week before as last week there was full on tackling & this week you were allowed for 3 seconds to grab the jumper but not wrap the arms around your opponent, surely it is one or the other :? :? :? oh by the way little bayman had a shot to put clg in front from about 25 metres & it dropped a couple of metres short, romeo snapped a goal after crumbing but the siren beat him, it was a very entertaining game
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

It's interesting that you have scores and tackling. In the MWJFL there is no tackling & bumping until U/11's. There is also no "official" scores either.

bayman, just letting you know that you cant place the scores on this website for the U/8's, 9's and 10's, your club was warned last year. If the AFL or the SANFL search this site which they do and see the scores are posted, the league can get fined whihc will be passed onto the club. On the rules, there is no tackling allowed, it is grab and release, all clubs were advised about this and was voted on at the AGM in November. What we are seeing here though is that the club delegates arent passing on the information to the respective coaches for those grades and also some umpires need some extra training. All clubs have been sent an email outlining the rules so hopefully it is all right by this weekend. Please grab them off you club Thursday night.

Just wondering if anyone could enlighten me on the following- i have a nephew who plays for payneham in the u/9's comp, i think its the NEJMFL?? I went to watch his game the other Friday night at Modbury and was very disheartened by some of the rules which have/haven't been implemented.
Why is there tackling in U/9's?! Why are there not zones set up so there isnt 20 players around the ball at all times?? These would be my main two issues.
Shouldnt junior footy be about kids developing their skills?? How can this happen when as soon as they get the ball there is 20 other kids within 2 metres of them? It just seems farcical. Some kids at this level are still learning how to kick FFS!
I remember when i played jnr footy their was no tackling up until U/11's and you had to bump the kid twice to get holding the ball. And there was 3 seperate zones on the oval- Forward /Centre/Back and the kids playing in each of these zones were restricted to these playing areas. Much better concept in my opinion. Gave all the kids a chance, and gave them time to dispose of the ball.
The way it is setup currently is a joke and whoever heads this association needs to reassess the rules because the development of these kids is at jeapordy.

My son plays at Flinders Pk u11s. They dont keep scores either and havent done since u8s, but the kids all know if they have won or lost when they come off anyway. Quite often he comes off after the game and tells me the scores or how much they won/loss by. No big deal i dont reckon.
Thats what im talkin aboooouuuut!!!!!!

Teach your kids life skills another way, don't expect football to do it for you before the kid turns 11.

Teach them how to kick, mark, handball, bump, spoil, run... By 11 they may be competent at some or all of these - then teach them how to tackle, win and lose. Little steps for little kids guys.

I've seen first hand the effect that a big loss has on these kids and it isn't pretty. They learnt nothing. I doubt the kids who won learnt much more. They aren't life skills, that's just punishment for the undeserving.

I think it also comes to attention that the league has clearly set rules. Rules are meant to be set in place to keep people in line. I understand all parties arguments but the bottom line is.... The league has clear set rules that are in place, surely we would all be setting the best example by abiding by them. I always read baymans articles on the juniors as there is nothing better than watching the youngsters kicking their first goal or take a great mark, but rather than printing the scores i'd rather hear of a young fellas run down the wing and hitting the bustling full forward on the chest and slotting it for a 6 pointer. I mean cmon they are just having fun....

I know they are having fun, I helped to set up a junior club and am happy to see the kids still running around 10 years later playing for the club. The rules are set down by the SANFL who dont really help out much latetly with the juniors. I would like to say to bayman to go ahead and put the scores in but just letting him know about somethings.

It is ridiculous paddock.
They go from 15 to 18 on the ground & tackling is allowed for the 1st time, but, they still play on the half ground that they played on as under 8's.
I don't mind the tackling coming in at that age, otherwise the kids that stand out just run around the player on the mark every time & get a false security. Personally I'd stay with the 15 to keep the game open, the zoning is interesting though.
Hey soccer you owe us 45million.
