Shane Watson will embarrass a few people who thought he couldn't make it at test level. He averages about 50 in first class cricket for a guy who's been batting in the top order since he was about 20, he bowls at 140k and is a good fielder. I don't think he will be the great bowler people seem to think he is going to have to be, but his batting will be what gets him through, and his bowling will be a bonus. The comment about him not being fit enough is a joke. Watson is one of the fittest blokes going around. IMHO the problem is he is too fit, and too close to the line where fitness becomes injury. A couple of solid years will see the end of his hamstring injuries for a while I think, and then when he gets the chance to play a few tests in a row lets just him. Hayden, McGrath, Warne, Langer and Waugh were all supposed to never make it because they weren't good enough.

Nope he won't ebarrass many people unless he proves himself with the ball. He can bat and not too many will disagree with that. Is he in the best 6 batsmen in Australia? No, he isn't but if he gives his bowling away he may just give himself the chance to make it into the best 6 batsmen in Australia. Whilst he keeps bowling he is only harming his chances as firstly he keeps injuring himself while bowling and secondly his bowling is crap at best. Just cos he bowls at 140k doesn't mean it's good. I'll argue that he very rarely gets up to that speed now anyway but regardless you are not going to blast International players out bowling at 140k. You need to bowl well and consistently something Watto struggles to do. In shorter formats his bowling is more effective but in the longer form of the game he is very little threat whatsoever.
