With the exception of Heuskes, I don't think either club has big names. Both rely on a good array of local talent and that is why the match was so evenly fought all over the ground and created huge interest around Victor Harbor. The match had a carnival atmosphere.

it was quite fascinating that no one from victor harbour actually went up to heuskes and really tried to test out his shoulder. he is struggling big time with this injury would only take a couple of bumps or pushing into it and he would have been out of the game really early. Probably right in saying he is the big name of the game but he is very much past it.
Personally i thought the one person that could have broke the game wide open would have been Hodge for victor but dont think he was always used in the right position and he is definatley not a local boy

cyclops, dunno if you can say heuskes is past it, i mean dont get me wrong hes not like he was in 1996 grand final footy flashback or anything, but he still domiantes week in and week out. The club plays him in a variety of positions and he provides great leadership to the young guys.

given the amount of contested marks and possesions he gets every sat i think if you played on him you def wouldnt say he was past it, think you would be sayin f%$k he gave me a bath.

Heuskes is probably past it physically but there is no substitute for 'football smarts'. His ability to be in the right spot and the way he uses his body still puts him a cut above most. Doesnt waste too many disposals either

And there is no substitute for heart in a player and this bloke is the Pharlap of footy! Players not playing with small and minor injuries, this bloke last year strapped a bike tube to his groin to use as an artificial muscle after doing his groin the week before!!! Can't teach that gentlemen!!!

besides the bike tube incident, he also uses about $1000 worth of strapping each game. Heuskes is like other ex afl players, take mods for example, body up agaisnt him and you will never beat him, heuskes is the same, the only way you will beat him is on a lead and you out sprint him, but he doesnt lead much so good luck.

i think to say that the bays lack big name players is a bit of an understatment, where if Jacob Baggs put his mind to it and pursued a more serious approach to footy when he was younger he would be playing AFL now. other names include scott Baggs, James Baggs, Scott Brown, Dave Sanders, Ray and Owen Love. All the above names have been targeted by SANFL clubs or other clubs in other associations, so to say the bays lack depth is a bit of a misleading comment.

Mods was still moving well when he came to the GSFL. Heuskes is valuable as he holds a kep spot which frees up another player and also the footy smarts thing is absolutely true. His advice and experience would be invaluable to the playing group.

Surely Heuskes would get a game at any club he wanted down in the GSFL! Willunga would find a place for him for sure. Possibly Husnik may have to make way for him?

I dont know whether he would get a game or not. As you say who would make room for him. Lucky we dont have to make that decision so therefore its a pointless question. Our backline is a very strong one with Bennett, Langford, Radbone and co (when i was about to post id forgotten Haskett) down there, Huizink being away hurts us a bit but saves our ears from the dribble!

Victor do rely heavily on too few and may get caught out in future however until this happens their confidence will build making them harder to combat. The lack of depth as stated here is only equal in the lack of knowledge exerted here. It was a game that was great for the competition with so many local players in both sides.
