This is pretty bad to have Harris leave the Redbacks. A player who is just reaching his peak and has been on the list for years and by the looks of things, really wanting to make something of himself as a professional cricketer.

I agree with Dogwatcher. That should've happened a few years ago. That has been the only constant in the poor performances of the Redbacks over the years. Enough is enough of the constantly wrong decisions from the top.

Poor bloke, but the saga continues -

Angry Sussex cut Harris from opening match

Ryan Harris' deal with Queensland may affect his county contract

Sussex were forced to withdraw Ryan Harris from their Championship opener against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl at the last minute after he signed a three-year deal with Queensland.

Harris was picked up as a Kolpak player and joined for Sussex on the understanding that he held a British passport and met current ECB regulations. However, his deal with Queensland might put him in breach of contract with Sussex and the county are believed to be seeking clarification of the situation from the player.

"Naturally it is disappointing that Ryan was withdrawn minutes before the start of play," Gus Mackay, Sussex's chief executive, said. "We are currently working with the relevant authorities and their lawyers in the hope of resolving the situation."

Harris learned his cricket in South Australia but chased a move after they only offered him a two-year deal, despite his growing importance to the team.

It doesn't explain how his transfer could threaten him playing there....any one know?

because he was a kolpak player as he wasnt under contract by any state side (and held a british passport) when he signed with sussex- now he has signed with queensland he is classed as on overseas player- i think that is roundabout how it works.

You can't blame him either for wanting to pick up those cheap wickets whenever the Bulls play the Backs next season.

With Harris heading to Qld, i guess Watson can kiss his allrounder days goodbye. Nofke and Harris are first choice in any team. He'll have to concentrate on being a top order batter. If thats the case, Watson to be in the cricket wilderness in 2 years, or playing for SA. Which one would you want?

Playing for SA as a batsman.

Don't let him bowl. He is a very good batsman at first class level. Not quite good enough to play for Australia as a batsman but if he gives the bowling away and just sticks to batting at least he will stay on the park and give himself a chance to prove me wrong. I'd be very happy to see him play for SA if he didn't bowl.

Karma? :-k

Full marks for ambition and making the most of your career but does anyone else see the irony of this or are we all just focussed on the SACA?

I thought the County cricket thing was a key part of his 3 year plan and he was considering qualifying for England now he potentially has to sit it out until fighting with Watto and Noffke and Hopes for a spot in the QLD team next summer.

On a personal level, I hope it all works out for him but I would have preferred he take the 2 year deal and stay here with us!
In between signatures .....

Unfortunately, Rhino has shot himself in the foot. Not only is he moving to a State where he will more than likely end up just playing District Cricket but he has lost his English county contract. All this for a 'one year' extra contract.

Phew, this is what I was thinking to avoid getting on the SACA-are-carp bandwagon. You certainly have to wonder where some people get their advice from and whether they truly see a big picture.

Harris would want to now make sure he can get into the Queensland side, as the saga concludes

Harris forced to abandon Sussex contract

Sussex have confirmed Ryan Harris has terminated his contract with the club with immediate effect. The county was forced to withdraw Harris from their Championship opener against Hampshire at The Rose Bowl on Wednesday after he signed a three-year deal with Queensland.

Harris, who grew up in and appeared for South Australia, was originally picked up as a Kolpak player and joined on the basis he held a British passport and met current ECB regulations. However, the conditions also stipulate players cannot perform in another country as a local.

"This has been a very difficult decision for Ryan but the only decision he could make after it was announced on Wednesday that he had signed a three-year contract with Queensland to play as a local player and not as an overseas player," Gus Mackay, Sussex's chief executive, said.

"This is extremely disappointing for the club given that Ryan is an exciting cricketer who we were looking forward to being part of our title defence." Harris played in the season's traditional curtain raiser - Sussex, the County Champions, against MCC - and bowled swiftly at Lord's last week, picking up 4 for 36.

Magie whether or not Harris could see the picture your talking about, at this stage it doesnt matter. People are most upset that he is gone. He is a good bloke and good cricketer and SA seems to have a shortage or the later.

Had a good read about what he had to say about the SACA in the mail today. Was a good read.

I spoke to Ryan's manager today and in particular the farce of his Sussex contract. Sussex CEO whoever his is has taken the moral high ground of terminating his contract because he signed in Australia as a local player. Several International stars do exactly the same at other clubs but still get to play.

Also a side note negotiations for Ryan's new contract were initiated by Ryan & his management several months ago but SACA were too subborn to budge
