franklin 12 goals and kyle jenner has injured himself. not sure if its a knee or hammy at this stage. ports showing signs of improvement pushing cleve and kimba in their first two games. i see prime has kicked two bags of 8 looks like tumby are the team to beat down their again although last years captain jon hunt lined up for cowell on anzac day. did he have a fall out with tumby?

So what do we get out of the Friday game between MP & MR.
First of all the obvious - MR nearly stole a game they had no right to win given the state of the game 5 or 10 minutes into the last 1/4 and only going down by 4 points. Ironic isn't it when the losing coach is praising his players and the winning coach is disappointed. Footy can be strange at times.
Very happy with Rick Myers game in his first match back for a few seasons. Fairly solid at full back however let Mooney get a few touches when he went on him at CHB for 10 or so minutes. Helped turned the game in the last 1/4 when he went into the ruck. He certainly wasn't intimidated by the MP boys. Semmler was pretty good and got a lot of touches being prepared to run and put in. Couple of disposals went astray however. Glen did a fine job on Mooney for 3 1/2 quarters restriting him to 4 points, 1 gettable and the others from acute angles which is where he was forced to lead to with Glen playing him in front. Man on man contests went Mooney's way about 3 times. Haydn Parker was very good until injured around half time. Tim Brooks was also around the mark. Lenard Lawrie did ok and Darren Francis showed he has a bit to offer. Sarge with 5 was also worth a mention. The rest were either in and out a bit or just plain out of it.

Bit hard to individualise the MP players as I'm buggered if I can pick out who's who a lot of the time. Not mentioned in the paper but I thought Ky Miller was their best or close to it. But as a team, they were clearly the best side out there over the majority of the game and their speed and preparedness to run any which way to get the ball forward will kill off most sides this year. Don't know for sure, but reckon we may have a few more definite A graders to come into the side than MP do. (steven harrison, McNamara and struggling to think of others. We would have Doudle, C Brooks, Z Tiller, T Dennis, Thommo etc.

Overall impressed with MP but every side will have to capitalise on their lapses of discipline. which carried over to the grass area after the match. 2 onto 1 (who I think was no. 19 in the A's). Boots and fists flying everywhere and no-one prepared to help the 1 who was pleaing for help.

We dominated every single position on the ground HS and it looks like a long season for our little sister down the road. The only downside was that Primey did his calf and could miss a few, also edna Clarke came off late in the game and could miss a couple. A couple of commments from supporters after the game that are getting a bit grumpy with the Curtis boys constant winging on the ground and we are thinking about taking some kind of internal action against maggot as he is constantly spraying team mates including myself.

Went and had a look at the first round of Far West Footy, Blues beat Koonibba by a couple goals in a good, hard clean contest, there was a heavy wind with all goals for the day scored down the end favoured by the wind.

The Centenary Oval grandstand fund is building nicely especially after a rather large donation by a particular football club.

We had good crowds over the weekend at centenary with excellent gate takings. the ravendale crowd was small by all reports.
Has anyones opinions changed of the sides after round 1?
1. Mallee park seem to be the real deal and were vey quick and elusive, still have Phil Dudley, Jason Burgoyne, Shannon McNamara and others to come in.
2. Marble Range looked slow and the depth may not be as strong this season but they do have more to come in and will only improve. half the players looked like they didnt want to be out there.
3. Waybacks were impressive but I just wonder if they have the key position players to beat the top two sides. Goodwin and Kelsh need close tagging every week.
4. Bostons From what I saw they played too many behind the ball and this simply wont work especially against the peckers. Game plan has to change as they are the big losers from round1. The jury is out.
5. Tasmans from all reports were good but didnt beat much.
6. Souths look set for a lot of dissapointment this season.

Almost time to re-visit the NO ID NO ENTRY rule.......

Tasmans were good at ravendale...... They seem to have more depth in the midfield this season with more rotation options..... even MJ was allowed to float across halfforward for most of the day which was a luxury..... The delivery into the forwards was impressive with a couple of the new recruits they have showing good signs..... Ronnie and Sarge obviously did homework and got most of the matchups right including a rather close tag on our best player..... On the other hand its back to the drawing board for us.... we were competative for 3/4s but just had a lapse in the 3rd term where we lost the game however we battled on ok in the last term.....
Well done to a couple of Tasmans officials who helped bring out and then carrying off one of our players on a stretcher after an accidental headclash....
I honestly think the game this Friday night will be a great game T v B ..... with it really hard to pick a winner. Waybacks and MP will be interesting to see where the Dees are at.....

What did you think of the ravendale game AG, steakn , kocksy? To give you some credit I thought you did a good job to stay with us until half time. Yooeey kicked 8 and is a shining talent up forward and the delivery to him was great.
Very small crowd on hand at the football where were all the south supporters?
Great initiative to have night hockey after football aswell, makes for a great day of sport.

From the Friday game I thought Marble Range played several players that were not up to standard, I dont know who they were but they were numbers 10, 13,14,15,17,24. Mallee Park looked speedy and clearly turned off late in the game.

What happened in the Centenary Saturday game?

Remember my signature in the back of your mind during this season :supz:

very imformative? what just like his first hand knowledge of the port u/19s, ressies and league because he watches it live every week! 8)

few surprises in lincoln footy results from the weekend but doesn't look like much different from last year in the great flinders league with tumby clearly up the top and eyre united clearly at the bottom. all this talk from batman and robin but no action! maybe they should've trained....ie preseason? maybe westcoastpanther does know something after all.

i heard schreibs was the only port lad that played, bit of a shame as it wouldve been great for you guys to see them firsthand and it would've been a pretty even mix amongst the teams. i hear the lads certainly enjoyed the weekend off thats for sure! :drinkers:
