excellent work spelly,as a spectator i can assure you that about 30% of those handballs hit targets.

Can you also verify that South, who many have said had the game won halfway throught the 3rd quarter and lost by 10pts, only managed 11 free kicks to Glenelgs 25?
Funny things free kicks... often its not how many you get, but where you get them and the stats only show the ones the umpires paid not the ones they missed........ Thankyou very much DICK.
I confess to being marginally biased, so prior to anyone berating me for expressing my opinion please read an impartial perspective in Warren Partlands summary of the match in the Sunday Mail.

the umpiring was the worst i have ever seen ,

it wouldnt of changed the game, we didnt play well (south)

r. williams is the biggest disgrace ever, he should not be umpiring,
the other 2 were just as bad

On the whole I didn't think the umpiring was that bad. I think twice in the last term I acknowledged the blokes around me who thought that the Bays got a soft free, but all the others were there, no question. In trying to choke the game, South would have done better to stifle posession than to go for physical harassment.

I was especially pleased with the holding the ball call bang in front of Glenelg's goal in the last term. Nine times out of ten the umpire would have wimped out and called a ball up, rather than make the hard call at a crucial point in the match. Good on the ref (whichever one it was, couldn't tell from the hill) who had the balls to make a hard call.

As for Mr. Partland's ability to write a fair and objective article, let's hope that it's better than his ability to get the players' names right. If you are reading this Warren, What's Mick Handby's christian name?
