Hard Drive/DVD Recorder

Postby Felch » Tue Apr 15, 2008 4:24 pm

I think there is already a thread on this subject, but i thought i would start a new one because i think my question is different.

Im looking at buying a hard drive/dvd recorder in the coming weeks, and i was wondering what people can recommend/suggest.

Basically want it to record shows off FTA TV - i already have a HD set top box. Do the recorders have there own in-built reciever, or do they plug into an existing one?

You can get both Felch.

That extends me to the limit of my knowledge, even though I have been looking at them for the last few months. Will watch the replies in here with interest before I look any more.

I have a HDD/DVD recorder.

It has a built in tuner, but I still record using the signal from my HD Set top box.

Mine is a Pioneer DVR-540H

160 gig.

Works really well.

I bought a cheapy no name from Strathfield for $200 and it works a treat.
Prior to that I bought a $800 LG (with no HD) and despite having about 3 grand of work done to it (under warranty) it still didnt work and I threw it out as it was a useless piece of poo.

Can't remember, got it at the same time as my TV and set top box... and it was 3 years ago.

I dont know anyone who has had a decent reliable LG product of any type. Had a few LG VCRs and they were poo, even when they worked, which was only for a couple of months.

Dishwasher, dryer and washing machine and even my new laptop are all LG and all top notch... I avoid their home entertainment stuff though, as a rule.

Me Me Me!

I've had an LG plasma for 5 years, hasn't missed a beat. In fact, it was covered in gyprock dust for a while (accidentally I might add) and still going strong.

We've got Foxtel IQ, so I haven't had any need to buy a DVD Recorder. My old man's got a Samsung one and reckon's it's great.

Yep, cos we've got cable. My sister who's got satellite cannot tape FTA.

I don't think there is much doubt that in time everything will go wireless. Cables and wires underground deteriorate and cost more to put in and in maintenance. It won't be good for those further from the main population centres, and I'm not entirely relaxed about living in increasingly dense high frequency fields..

"They have not been proven to cause harm." doesn't entirely convince me. :?
