It wasn't really in the same genre, but i reckon "The Main Event" hosted by Craig Johnston was a good show for a year or 2 in early 90's, they could do worse than bring something like that back on.

It will be just like it was last time - ratings were great and everyone was talking about it for about a month and then it slipped quietly into oblivion. Won't be back for another series...
