I can remember discussing a topic either last year or the year before about a Lonsdale plyer taking out a Flaggies player (quite young) in an A grade game. From memory it was a severe act that may have even stopped the game for sometime... Did anything every come of that..??

Mex, that did happen some time ago and the Lonny player is no longer associated with the club. I can say that it was their then playing coach in Shane Mitchell who king hit one of our young lads who was playing his first A grade game. The game was called off as a result of this incident. And if I recall correctly, even though no action was taken by the SFL, im pretty sure Lonny disposed of Mitchell after this game or not long after.

And from personal accounts, Ive never really had any trouble playing against Lonny, but have seen some pretty shifty stuff in the B grade!!

Mex,Mitchel got one game for that incident and probably should have got more. The lad he hit was only 17 at the time and was a great young player. He is still at Flaggies and is developing into a good senior player but that incident did set him back for the rest of that season.

Yeah i missed that game but the laddy was pretty shaken up by it and even got abused by Mithchel at the tribunal hearing. I also heard there was a fair bit going on that day with some elbows and it was no accident the hit on laddy.

Anyway how are Flaggies going this year. heard they got touched up in a trial game and a long serving player hung his boots up afler the trial???

Everyone has had a go at a younger player (Kane Stewart espeacilly, it think thats his name). It happened to me and i will no doubt do it to someone.

I dont care how young the 'lad' is if he is playing A grade footy their is no exception. Although, cowadly acts like punching a younger guy is a little different to tackling or hip and shouldering someone hard.

If any young guys and supporters out their dont like it, dont let the 'youngens' play A grade.

City Mad Hustler, Flaggies arent looking too bad this year. Lost Size in the ruck and Paddy Walts to the Army but with some of the young kids coming through we should do okay. Will just have to rely on Yamel and Stinger to carry the ruck stocks.

As for the trial game, we only went down by a couple. Wasnt too bad a result seeing as it was our first game under new coach Steve Green. Was a much improved effort after the first quarter.

The only long serving player that may have hung up the boots would be Hazz. Dislocated his elbow in the magoos. Can still see him maybe pulling them on for his beloved C grade later in the year.

And Hills, king hits and hip and shoulders are completely different things. Young kids or anyone for that matter shouldnt have to put up with cheap shots behind the play.

Agreed. but it is A grade football. Although, if a younger fella copped a king hit (legally) in my team. Id be the first person to stand up for him. But if they dont (younger players) wont to get hurt, maybe one more year as a Jnr is worth it.

A king hit can be legall too.

Swooper, I was thinking the exact same thing!!

Also, im sure young kids would expect to be hit hard when playing senior footy and would accept it as part of the game. However, its not the fair hits we are talking about here. No one deserves to be hit from behind, especially a younger lad!

Young blokes playing in the seniors would never expect anyone to go easy on them, but they dont expect to get belted from behind by slower has beens who are past it and cant keep up!

On the topic of thugs and dirty play (something the SFL has never been too fussed on punishing) i see on another thread that the SAAFL has brought in a "12 game suspension = disqualification" rule, sometimes meaning players cant play in the SAAFL anymore. Would these players be eligable to register for the SFL, and can we expect a lot of these bell-ends to bob up anytime soon?

Where has Sizey gone?? They will need to find some new young rucks as stinger told me he's not the player he used to be and I always thought Kano was better at CHB? I know when i was there last there was a few young lads that should be fairly tall about now but westies always seem to pinch them

Just adding in any tips for Premiers, Mail Medal and any Dark Horses, young players to watch?

Im tipping MV couldn't drop to far and Porties as a Darky they are such an under-rated side.

Tedmanson for the Medal. He could double as an Arnie he is huge now he will leave all in his path (If porties dont waste him) And the younger Bayly as a dark for the medal. Star of the league now and should catch alot of eye after last season Didn't he win the B&F Mex?

Sizey has moved onto Cove after chasing the coin. Unfortunately Stinger and Kano would be the tallest blokes in the A grade squad. I agree that Kano is better suited to CHB, but if we can get Lavla up he is more than a handy replacement. Height is definitely not our strength at Flaggies so I guess we will just have to develop a running type game.

Btw, we do have a few 6ft+ players out at Westies but they seem to be doing quite well and it is unlikely we will see them any time soon. One may be a smokey for the draft later in the year.

Yeah thats right S&B. Had a sensational year last season - probably can expect a bit more attention this year but is so quick and fit its hard for anyone team to get a good matchup on him. Also plays about a foot taller then what he is.

tip for the medal would have to be B. Moore. if he stays fit and plays a full season he will be up there. He will rake up touches, gets his hands on the ball first and gets a kick or a hands away constantly in stopages. i think he scored over 10 magery votes for the bays last year. he is going to be exciting to watch.

C'mon City Mad Hustler, Dick n Ribs will be lucky to get a game in the C grade this year!! Tries hard but unfortunately no ability!! All went down hill when he popped his hip out doing the limbo last year!!

When it comes to D n R and footy, I think the broken finger is the least of his worries.....
