I reckon that is right LF, it was the same year saints senior colts lost to mclaren in the GF.

Not sure on 04 but 03 was definately at Encounter Bay. I remember it because I had one of my mates wedding in the hills the night before and I had to drive from there to E.B. on the Sunday a bit seedy! Also by getting smashed in a tackle by Gigney!!

Speaking of old games gives me an idea. What is your most memorable game? give us a run down of what happened.

You can also add Penglis and Lawrey to that list LF, these guys all live in Adelaide now and have all decided to have a kick together so while it will hurt victor as Sheridan was a good rover and Maxwell always held his own in the ruck atleast they have a genuine reason and will remain respected around the club.

Surely these guys will or at least will be expecting to dominate Division 6. its a very strange choice to play in such a low division, especially when some of the clubs in that league would have a large percentage of axe murderers. Sorry brahama lodge!

LF, i wouldn't be too critical of Bob. He is a veey good umpire and does a great job. You guys (Saints) had a goal umpire 3 or 4 years ago who made a pretty ordinary decision at compass that cost us the game. I know everyone makes mistakes and i would like to think thats all they are.

I reckon with the shape of our ball and the subjectivity of all umpiring decisions there is a degree of luck in any result closer than 3 goals.

I understand that but I wouldn't say that any GSFL goal umpire is "very" good. Its not really a job that is overly difficult. There has always been an element of dodgeness with goal umpires, ous included. Yes thats you danny "blinky" wilton.

Is it time the GSFL bit the bullet and made all goal umpires professional ?

Speaking of umpires apparently the GSFL have lost a few to other leagues & are struggling for numbers, it's a pity not enough former players take the job up cos i'm sure they make good umpires. The best example would be Hoover Godfrey great umpire, great understanding of current game situation, and quite often you forget he's there (3 votes Micky).

best gsfl umpire i have had would have to be Richard Pilmore, brother or Barry from Willunga. Great bloke on the field not a guy who comments and argues just gets with the game, and calls the only what needs to be called, not whistle happy like the rest of them.

worst umpire - Rob Heaslip, x president of bays was almost like went out of his way to piss people off and just dont think he had any idea.I suppose he was only filling in though, ill give him that for trying.

I never knew that 'Reds' brother was an umpire? I will be taking up umpiring, had a crack at it last year in an A grade trial. It is a very easy gig and they get decent money. I will open to bribery from clubs

Agree with most of above.
Some matches are a stroll in the park to G.U. but some days the Footy Gods just dont like you and you get 5 - 6 decisions during the match that you get abused either way as someone else always claims to be in a better position to you to see what happened.
I G.U. 'A' grade in GSFL for about 10 years in the 80s and 90s and YES i made some mistakes but was NEVER dodgy and if anything favoured the oppositions team in 50/50 calls just to be seen NOT to be biased.

Have you done much Goal Umpiring L.F. ?

I have. Made a mistake once mainly beacuse I was talking to someone behind the goals. I must say as a player i do appreciate the goal umpires and have had ONLY 1 error go against me

I remember early in the season last year we played Strath and I lined up at FF (very unfamiliar territory). Anyway within the first 5 mins I was given a free kick about 10 mins out straight in front. The excitement must have got to me because I dropped the ball awkwardly and kicked the ball the wrong side of the right goal post. For some reason the goal umpire didn't move from where he stood right between the big sticks so I started celebrating and found a team mate to 'high 5'. It must've been a convincing act because he showed the 2 fingers!
