Newspaper coverage of country football

Spend most of saturdays watching the BLG comp. and the league has three papers covering the it, Two which I rate highly both from the Barossa (Hearld and The Leader) and one from Gawler which weekly make embrasissing blunders, and who write on either rumors or untrue stories. I am interested in the coverage other leagues get and the quality.

I'm assuming you mean The Bunyip Brad Man? I can't believe the coverage it gives local sport, compared to any of the Messengers in town you guys have it made out there, even if it has a mistake or two...

Gotta love country sports coverage.
We do very well up here in the Riverland - tv, radio, newspapers.

The Barossa gets some good coverage. I rate the Bunyip fairly highly. Good coverage.
Covering two significant leagues.
Brad Man - has the type of reporting changed in the Bunyip since it was sold?
I can't say much for the other Barossa papers, I've only briefly seen them, but i think their lay out can leave a bit to be desired.

The Plains Producer at Balaklava gives the Adelaide Plains league a pretty good coverage if not a little United bias as there footy writer plays for them.

I'd be very surprised if it was biased towards United on the basis of the football writer. It is based in Balak after all, and I couldn't see that community standing for a bias in that respect. Terry Williams is also a good editor and I wouldn't think he'd let that happen either.

It's easy to say a football writer is biased just because they play for a certain team.
But in most experiences I've spoken to blokes about (including my own) they work very hard to avoid that.

Well, I'll say it.

The Pioneer provides a very good coverage of Riverland football - great pics and wrap-ups, along with profiles.
Loxton News and River News are very biased towards the clubs in their patch, which is totally acceptable. Although one particular paper could at times be a little less one eyed.

We have good previews on Saturday mornings on local radio and local ABC radio.

While WIN, in recent years, has provided a very good coverage of football across three leagues in our region on Monday nights on tv.

No shred of bias anywhere in there BD

Yes, I think the Riverland will have fantastic overall coverage this year.

Northern Argus in Clare does great coverage of Northern Areas & North Easten.

The Southern Argus covers GSFL, SFL and Hills Country pretty well considering the amount of clubs in those 3 leagues

It is not so much the amount of coverage the Bunyip gives its the accuracy of the stories, EG, Last week Bunyip printed that David Kellet has left Barossa and joined Willaston, In the BLG clubs can refuse clearances if the player wants to go from one BLG club to another, The artilce suggested that David would be at Willaston, This gives the Members/supporters false hope that this will happen, I would suggest Barossa would be mad to clear David, if the rules state they dont have to, this is the same as the Matt Cragg-Sapsford story with Matt wanting to go from South Gawler to Nuriootpa, This clearance has been refused twice and will end up having to go to a club outside the BLG to play footy. You can't blame South. Thats the rules.......... Maybe the rule needs to be changed, All in all the Bunyip needs to start writing artclies base on fact not on hope..... I look forward to this week stuff up from the Bunyip.

Didn't you read the national media last winter Brad Man, there were hundreds of articles based on hope :

1) that Chris Judd would end up at a certain club (Carlton/Collingwood/Melbourne)
2) that Port Adelaide wouldn't win the AFL flag

It's all we read about for half the year.

Dog watcher, I think we would both agree a good jurno would do some groundwork before writing a article, and i guess it is like everything else in the world some are better then others........

What about the views of your Leagues' programme (Budget, Barracker, Follower, Record etc.). I remember that most of the SA Leagues were reasonable - some better than others but most fulfilled the function of including the ladders, teams, basic news and some included the fixtures.

I remember the Hills, MSEFL, SFL and BLGFL being pretty good, the WBFL, YPFL, KNTFL, RMFL and Riverland being alright and the SGFL being a bit light on for information apart from ads, teams and a ladders page.

Have they changed? What about the other leagues?
