Too many people ready to forget Blackwood. Don't be surprised if they aren't a top 3 finisher. Uraidla look the stand out, the Devils can't be as strong having lost those quality players and Onkas are still a query so reckon Blackwood might be around the mark - no inside information, just a hunch!!

I can't see it changing too much either MC. Covering B grade sounds a bit imaginative. I think the HFL has hoped over the years that some of the club umpires covering B grade would eventually step up to the official panel, but the idea hasn't worked. I've known a few club umpires over the years and my theory is that the main reason why they gradually drop out seems to be the reception they receive from their own club when they dare to give it a go. Home clubs seem to believe they are entitled to 'club umpire advantage' and when this doesn't happen the poor guy gets sledged without respite. It gets worse after a few paper cups of port and no-one can blame these poor guys for not returning. Maybe the HFL needs to look at encouraging clubs to support their own volunteers...............Just a thought Owen if you're tapping in.............

On the umpiring issue, it was good to see Dennis Raymond umpiring a trial between Lofty and Strathalbyn. Would have to say that he did a very good job also.

Interesting to hear ex Hahndorf player Dennis Raymond umpiring a trial recently, and with Kersbrook's Kym Pearce and Ashley MacDonald (Son of Golden Whistle Winner Trevor) likely to officiate in Kersbrook's trial against Hectorville tomorrow. Hopefully the HFL can entice more ex players to it's umpiring ranks, to improve the standard and ease the burden on the current crop of umpires. One Big name rumoured to be donning an orange shirt this year, is ex Ironbank and HFL rep Brad Smith! Any truth in that TWE?

Can't see too many answering back to him!

Another ex player who was umpiring a couple of years back was Horse (don't know his real name, but he was a tall unit) from Loby. Always did a great job IMO.
