Players You Loved To Hate

Postby McAlmanac » Fri Apr 28, 2006 12:21 am

Everyone has them - players you love to hate.

My personal "favourite" was The Golden Elbow - Ray Hayes. Another guy who I thought was a "sniper" was Kym Kinnear. Keeping up the Magpie theme, Steven Knight was a very annoying player (although sadly in ill health, apparently, these days). I was never keen on Wayne Phillis, either.

Who were the players in the SANFL of years gone by who you loved to hate?

The first two sound like for skill. The second two for thuggery.

I would have picked 3 of them in my side though.

I suspect Muir is the one you would leave out. He was, in fact, a superb footballer whose reputation obscured his talent.

That was one I missed, although I have met him socially a few times in the last 5 or 6 years, off the field he's not a bad bloke :?

Spot on, I'll never forget the day he was spitting on North supporters walking to the change rooms at Prospect at 1/2 time.................or that time he jumped the fence.

Makes shite houses though...

When I think of players I 'hated' in the 80s can I name a whole team? Port. With particular nods to Darren Smith, Bomber Clifford, Tim Ginever et al.

Scott Salsibury, Garry Mcintosh, Breton Klaebe, Paris Fowden, Chris Prime

Probably my most despised would be Peter Green. Tool of the highest order.
